Was SOG in Santa MOnica before it was in Lynwood WA? I have a couple of SOG's with SMCA stamped on the sheath. I sthat what that means and are they more collectible? Was the manufacture in Japan any different for knives of that period?

Thanks for any info.

A little SOG history lesson:

Back in about 1985, SOG was founded in a small, two bedroom apartment by the husband and wife team of Spencer & Gloria Frazer. Several years later, after noticeable growth, the Frazers moved SOG up to leased facilities close to the beautiful, Puget Sound waterfront community of Edmonds, Washington. After about seven years of continued growth, they outgrew those facilities and chose to build their own building. They found land several miles away in the neighboring city of Lynnwood and built their current facilities in which they currently occupy. That building was opened in about 1995. The Frazers were careful to build for the future, assuring the continued, healthy growth in that they'd become accustomed could continue without the need for any relocation the the short-term. It's now been about nine years in these facilities.

Every SOG blade is stamped with markings to represent in which location SOG was located.

I'm a little foggy on exact years, but those above are pretty darn close.

Since SOG's beginning, Spencer (SOG's President and Chief Executive Officer) has been the chief design guru, director of marketing, and in conjunction with his wife, made major corporate decisions. Also since the beginning, until recently, Gloria (SOG's Vice President and Chief Operating Officer) was the hardworking operations chief who exhibited amazing strength and assiduousness, who worked the hardest/longest hours I've ever seen with a truly amazing work ethic, and who spearheaded just about everything else "SOG." Their business saw powerful growth throughout the years since its inception. The past couple years have seen changes, but from what I can see, SOG is still continuing their focus of bringing to market exciting and innovative products.

Class over. Study this material, because there will be a test on Friday. ;)

I knew I'd posted this info before, but was too lazy to look it up....then decided to make it more detailed than the other one....ultimately, one thing turned into another and it turned into a mini book (well, not quite)....can you guys relate? :)

I knew they had two locations in Washington but did not pay attention to early models and adverts to realize the Santa Monica connection.
I just checked some of the stuff I have and I have an S1and the new LE sogTac bead blasted model of course from Lynwood, and a Tiger and SOG Tech marked SMCA for Santa Monica but I have a Trident that I know is at least 10 years old which is one of the Sterile models, No SEAL Team Logo, but still has the SOG logo just no location designator, so probably Edmonton WA. just from my guess at the age.

Learn something new every day!

Thanks again.

Vince.
