Hello,
I'm new to the world of SOG, so bear with me.

I'm considering the Bowie S1 and was just wondering if they were always made
in Japan ?

If not has the quality changed ?

Welcome to the World of SOG !!

I don't know if the answer to your question is "yes" but the S1 is a great choice !!!!

Cheers,

Carl

Te SOG Bowie (S1) has always been made in Japan. You should get one as I think you will not be dissapointed with it.

I couldn't agree more with Chris ...... I've had mine for over 2 years and have never been disappointed !!

Cheers,

Carl

OK thanks for the input.

I was just wondering, as a lot of things that were made HERE once
are now made elsewhere of visa-versa......

Since this is a SOG fourm, I'll ask a silly question, what else compares to the
SOG Bowie ?

Wow...in SOG products, not much. Consider the S2 Trident, the Scuba/Demo, and the Recon Bowie. All different knives, none may have the same history/mystery/exclusivity/pedigree (whatever you wish to call it), but each share a similar quality of the Bowie (I don't think they are all still in production).

what compares to the SOG Bowie ??

Best way to know is to collect ALL the fixed blade SOG's and field test 'em to determine what you like best !!

Carl

perhaps this can explain... a picture and a 1,000 words...;)

Bobby B,

You shouldn't have posted that picture, it makes me want to spend money I don't have. :D:thumbup:

Blade= 7.75"

Overall Length= 12.25"

Weight= 12.8 oz

Price(MSRP)= $288.00

Luckily you can find them for quite a bit less on E-bay, and also you can find better prices by doing a Froogle search. :):thumbup:

In the Bowie S1 class how do other knives compare ?

e.g. Falkniven I think, is one I heard of.

I got the SOG Seal Pup Elite with the Tigerstripe coating on the blade. No real funciton other than tactical and aesthetic. The knife itself is just small enough to be able to be carried legally in most states and I like a little smaller fixed blade myself. Easier to handle and still cuts just as well --- especially with the SOG blade -- unbelievably sharp and retains like you wouldn't believe.

I agree SOG blades hold a fine edge. I am "new" to SOG's, my first was in 1997. Can you all tell me how well the Recon Bowie holds an edge? Can you give me some specific history on the Recon Bowie too?
That is, to my eyes the most beautiful blade around. It shouts its history only I do not speak its language. Where is it made? From where comes its steel? Thanks.:thumbup:

Gus,

the finish is gun-blue, and I believe that is the only finish for the S1 Bowie.

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. it only took me less than 1 hour to remove the finish: cutting cantaloupe and honeydew melons. Some strong acid in those things !!
