When did this come out? I turn my back for one second and SOG releases a knife that looks good? I'm confused. Does anyone own this? Do you like it? I can't find a video on YouTube for the life of me.

I dig the looks, but I kinda wish they'd gone with the arc lock on that one. Still probably gonna pick it up, though.

The Kiku is next up on my list. Long time SOG fan,or at least a Seki made SOG fan. Can't wait to get this one though, and I'm getting the 4.6" satin blade. A buddy of mine just got a quartermaster hannibal(really odd looking knife, but once you handle it ,especially after removing the 3 sets of thumbstuds,it feels good and is a beast)and I was seriously considering that as my next buy,but the kiku bumped it down a notch.I really wish they had made it assisted, and in Japan or USA.

There are some choices. Way to go SOG. Linen Micarta scales, AUS-8 steel, liner lock and Taiwan maker. Here is a pic of one of the larger versions:

I absolutely love mine. Got the large 4.6" satin and it is a beast of a knife with wicked grinds. Opens smooth as butter and carries deep in the pocket. Solid lock up and has awesome fit and finish. It is a bit on the heavy side but carries very well. The micarta scales are a little smooth but gives the knife a very good purchase in hand. Great knife overall and a nice departure for sog!

I like the design, but I think it's a bit too pricey for a knife made from AUS8 (fine steel, within a certain price range) in Taiwan. It's up against some stiff competition, some great knives with better steel cost about the same.

Taiwan is not china!!! the best actual production is made in Taiwan!!!
Now i'd be interested to hear you name one knife that would cost the same with a better quality?? and if /or when you do, you would still have to compare them objectively and for that you would have to get the kiku in hands and you haven't.... Because if you had, you would be singing songs of joy to the glory of SOG!!!:applouse::applouse:

I enjoyed reading this post :D In my experience, SOG runs their AUS-8 pretty soft. Regardless of the materials and design of their knives, I definitely feel that you get better quality for cutting tasks from many other makers at the same price point.

I picked up the smaller 3.6-inch version.

Overall, I like the knife.

The canvas micarta scales are grippy, but they left them slightly undersized, so that the liners stick out over them.

The thumb ramp lacks jimping and the finger groove is rather shallow and doesn't lock the hand into it like on deeper ones.

This makes it feel slippery.

The blade shape is neat, a modified steeply slanted Tanto-point with a harpoon swedge grind and a slight recurve.

I am considering the larger version.

My buddy just got one and called me to brag. After bragging, he told me he did have complaints that the liner was too thin, but that he wasn't going to worry about it since the lock wasn't even fully under the tang yet so it should last awhile.

He's a self proclaimed genius though, so I did some image searching as I'm a fan of Kiku's, and one of the first images I found was this........

Looks like a poor way to compensate for a thin liner to me. I think I'll pass. I don't know what's with SOG and their Taiwan products, but I've been disappointed, especially since they ask so much for them.

Edit: Upon zooming in, that liner jimping REALLY looks casted to me.......
