Just quick question regarding the choice of blade materials for their knives. I have handled many SOG knives and love some of their designs but have not had the chance to use them and was wondering how the AUS6 steel holds up to hard use. Anyone out there had any experience with them good or bad they want to share? Thanks in advance.

So far, I only own the SEAL Pup and it seems like a great little knife. Its constructed well and the steel is very low maintenance. You might get a better edge with other steels, but then you'd really have to watch rust.

I wouldn't worry about the steel on the SOG knives.

Sorry, I'd have been here sooner, but I was busy sharpening and cleaning my knives.:D

Don't worry about the AUS-6 (or AUS-8) steel that SOG uses for their knives as it IS very good steel that is heat-treated very well. Don't let the "knife snobs" make you believe that the only good steels are VG-10, CPM440V, or one of the new "wonder steels". I have quite a good stack of SOGs that use AUS-6, and I have seen NO problems at all with them or the steel...They sharpen well (and easily), hold a pretty good edge, and are fairly tough and rust-resistant.:).
