SOG Knives?

SOGs are perfectly decent knives. Be aware that while I think the Seal Pup Elite is AUS-8, the Seal 2000 and Seal Pup are AUS-6 - tough as hell, but you WILL be doing some resharpening when you use them.

I have four SOG solders (the large and small Pentagon Elites, the BG-42 Autoclip, and one of their gent's knives.) They are not quite up to Benchmade or Spyderco quality, but miles ahead of junk. The three bigger ones all get frequent workouts as beaters, and perform just fine.

I don't own any of the fixed blades you're specifically looking at, so I can't comment on them directly.

SOG makes some great fixed-blade knives that perform well and don't cost a heck of a lot.

I have two SOG Seal Pups; one with the original kydex sheath, and one with the new style groove sheath. The kydex sheaths are of decent quality, but I would have bought leather if it had been available. I also have an SOG Northwest Ranger hunting knife, which came with a leather sheath. The NW Ranger is a great knife, but often overlooked.

Both the Seal Pup and the Northwest Ranger are tough knives. The AUS-6 stainless takes a great edge, and holds it well. Both knives need a sharpening after heavy use, but remember that most knives will need to be sharpened. I don't understand where people got the idea that a good knife doesn't need to be sharpened.

The Seal Pup has a hard Zytel handle. Finger grooves and checkering provide a secure grip in wet situations, and even when the handle is covered in oil. The Ranger has a softer Kraton handle, also checked. This provides a very secure and comfortable grip in most situations.

The Seal Pup and NW Ranger have serrations on the lower portion of the blade. These serrations are more rounded than is normal, and work very well at cutting. The Blade of the Seal Pup is relatively thick, and partially flat ground as opposed to hollow; it could be used for prying if necessary. The Ranger has a fully flat-ground blade, which makes it a poor tool for prying but a great cutter.

The Seal 2000 and Seal Pup Elite, being made from the same materials as the Seal Pup, are most likely of similar high quality. Any of SOG's fine fixed-blades would make a great user. I highly recommend the Seal Pup.

I have both the SOG Seal 2000 and Seal Pup. Great knives. The prices mentioned in that link above are good, but you can get just as well as some other sources online (ebay -- but check out the vendor).

SOG makes great knives but you can buy more performance for less money. In a fixed blade check out Becker or Ka-bar (carbon steels rule in fixed blades). For folders most Spydercos and Benchmades are going to be a bit better in my opinion (but they will cost similar to SOG). Having said all this SOG does make great products, you won't be disappointed if you buy one.

Thanks guys.

I got in on the group buy and went on the list of the SEAL pup Elite, for that price I could not say no and it looks real good! :D

The ones I've owned have been very well made. I have a SOG Twitch on the way.
