I found another tiny knife; the SOG Micron I. The Micron I has a clip point blade, as opposed to the Micron II which has a tanto point. It sells for around $10 in stores, and makes a neat keychain knife. This tiny thing weighs in at 0.4 ounce. Let's take a look.
Handle Details: The Micron is tiny at 1-7/8" long and 3/16" thick. It's all-black stainless steel, and has the usual SOG cut-outs in the handles. It looks like a much-shrunken SOG SEAL handle. It's held together with three T-6 Torx screws, and has a lanyard hole for attachment to your keychain or a micro lanyard. There's no lock; the Micron is a slipjoint. When the blade is fully open, it's going to stay open if you're using it like a small slipjoint should be used - slicing. There are two small grooves for your fingers to get good placement, and they work just fine. The Micron is comfortable in use and compares well to the Spyderco Bug. Both are lightweight, comfy little cutting utensils.
Blade Details: The Micron has an equally small blade; it's 1-1/2" long and all of it is the cutting edge. It's 1/16" thick and looks very much like the Tomcat's blade. The entire blade is blackened just like the handle, except for the markings; the left side has the Fusion logo lasered on, while the right side has micron I china lasered on. The blade steel is 420 according to SOG's website; whether this is 420J2, 420HC, 420 modified, etc. is beyond me. It sharpens like 420J2. Out of the box, it was sharp enough to slice paper. After a few seconds on a strop, it was shaving hair, but that sharpness didn't last long. In fact, the edge rolled with just one slice through a 1/16" thick twig. I've decided that this will be used on paper and not much else, or it will be a gift for my daughter. Oh, the Micron opens via nail nick on the left side.
The SOG Micron I is a nice little keychain knife, and will do quite well if used as a light-duty slicer. Just be careful with it and remember to take it off your keys when you go into the courthouse
It's a nice knife for a ten-dollar bill, although I personally prefer the Opinel N.3 (it's 2-1/4" closed and cuts much better). Give it a shot; you might really like it.
