I know that a lot of guys rate SOG multi tools very highly. Can you please tell me the difference between SOG's Powerplier and Powerlock.
The Powerplier looks less complicated...

edit...I should have searched the archives before asking. Powerlock is more heavy-duty, slightly larger. I think I prefer the Powerplier.
How would it compare to my old-style Supertool?

The Powerlock has those covers over the handles so it doesn't hurt your hand when you're really torquing it. Also the Powerlocks tools lock into place.

For comfort and ease of use I'd rate the Powerlock higher than the Supertool.

being able to swap out the tools is a nice feature the sogs have. i don't have one but the Ti-Ni powelock looks great for heavy use.

One thing that I dislike with the PowerPlier is that none of the tools lock--not fun having a screwdriver close on you whenever you put lateral pressure on the tool. Just put the PowerPlier away after about three years...just received my SOG factory second TiNi Powerlock(order from SOG Customer Service--see their website for details on how to save some money). Wonderful tool--only complaint from the P.Plier was the nonlocking tools. The PowerLock took care of that problem.

Hefty tool (about the same weight as a SuperTool) with an ingenious lock engagement and disengagement (I like alot better than the SuperTool I had about four years ago--don't think the Leatherman's lock has changed). As far as the TiNi, I work around a bunch of multi-tool gadget freaks (Army H-60 crewchiefs--read gunner & mechanic combined) and they were all oooohing and aaaahing when they saw my new multitool EDC--bright shiny object syndrome immediately kicked in on half of them;) Also don't believe the SuperTool has compound leverage like the SOGs.

back to work,

Glenmore

Another good SOG multi-tool to take a look at is the Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier. It's smaller and lighter than the LARGE PowerLock, and eventho I have a PowerLock (and it IS my favorite multi-tool), I carry my Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier. (I'd REALLY like to see SOG come out with a Deluxe Pocket PowerLOCK!).

Ditto Glockmann...
I love my TiNi Powerlock! Had it for about 2.5 years (?!) now, and just got a plain "second" one (pun intended) to play with. For more "Ooh" effect, I had it coated by BodyCote in rainbow (Titanium Oxide?) and the tools in plain (black) BC. Mow I just need to put it back together...

Are they accepting individual orders again? I've got several things I've been wishing I could have them coat.

I don't know abou the PowerLock but I recently bought the Power Plier.

I was looking for something stronger than my Leatherman PST, and something with a woodsaw.
I have a Gerber ProScout (which I like alot) but its flat-tip and phillips screwdrivers are not as good as the Leatherman's.
So I started searching...

I checked out the SuperTool 200 but it was just too bulky. I also did'nt like the way the tools of the SuperTool 200 locked.

The Gerber Legend was also too bulky and large for my hands.

I just did'nt like the SwissTool at all. It seemed like the tools were difficult to access.

But then I came upon the SOG Power Pliers. Heavy and strong but not too bulky for me to use comfortably. I really like the tool selection and the compound leverage pliers.
So, the Power Plier has become my newest favorite multi-tool.

That's not to say I would'nt change a few things if I could--such as:
1. The pouch should be stonger.
2. The woodsaw would be like a Swiss Army Knife's woodsaw.
3. The square driver would be replaced with a small phillips.

Good luck,
Allen.
