how do these guys compare? just got one off of steap and cheap for 36 bucks! woo hoo.. they dont seem to be too bad.

The PL replaced my LM tools as a my heavy duty EDC. Great quality and they give you the option of modification and repair while out in the field.

its the powerlock series. supposedly they can cut through quarters and other coins. i found that interesting. what i found more interesting is that i got it for 36 - 40 bucks shipped :D:D:D ... it will replace the gerber multi tool

If it can cut through an aluminum can it'll probably be a step up from the Gerber:foot: I know it's a bit of hyperbole, but the PL is a huge step up in quality to current Gerber offerings.

But if you cut up quarters they won't work in a vending machine. They are good tools and these days about the only thing I would consider buying that SOG makes.

yeah i figured as much. i had gotten a good deal on the gerber at the time and it has held up well over the few years i have had it. i do think the SOG will be my go to tool and the gerber will be there in case i lose the SOG. i am pretty excited about the purchase

Of around 20 multitools. SOG's are usually my first grab especially after the change where they use the gear covers that were on the Paladin ones that SOG makes.

I've owned a SOG Powerlock for about 8 years and it's still going strong. I like the way you can flip it open with a flick of the wrist - makes it a easier to use when you're holding onto something.

well i got it in last week and used it some over the weekend. wow now i know what a quality multi tool feels like :D.. that gerber just got stuck in the drawer for backup.

I have mine on me as a type, I love it, but not the easiest/fastest to use compared to many of the others.

Its a great tool, but...
I did have to look at a few to get a good one. One had hairline cracks on the tabs of the locking lever (older style), another had a VERY weak spring on one side for the locking lever...wouldn't even lock it place unless you helped push it in place.

I also noted that on mine the screwdriver in closed position would go in too far compared to the other attachments causing the lever to not fully close...this was fixed by removing a bit more of the metal on the screwdriver slot.

SOG does make a great multi. I have a first gen. Powerlock that's rock-solid, although I did roll the wire clippers on something (don't recall what).

If sog can take their power lock and give it the outer opening knives etc. i would sell my skeletool and my charge alx...

alas, they have not.

But still extremely solid tools,

Their 303 stainless construction makes them much less likely to rust immediately like leatherman

SOG will directly sell you the parts that you want

you can buy new extra blades parts, etc, for super cheap.

You can replace the pliar heads, and I think you can rebuy almost all the accessories in black as well (IIRC)

I think you got a great deal, I was looking at it and nearly pulled the trigger, but I just got a skeletool last month.

for 36$ it was very hard to beat. thanks for the added info. i didnt know you can replace the parts on it. but then again i only use multitools till they break then purchase another. now i can save $$. thanks again
