ONE AWESOME BLADE, and discontinued :-( ??

After seening the Night Vision for the first time awhile back I found mysele wondering how such an awesome knife had slipped by me. I have to be honest, I have never seen one. I consider myself to be somewhat of a serious knife collector but this blade had been in production and was now being discontinued and I was just seeing it!! I saw Ron's picture of his Night Vision on the "show your SOGs" post and had to have one. I was in the process of mail ordering one when I stopped by my local knife dealer's and they had one in stock. The combo edge just like I wanted. I was on the way to the Blue Ridge mountains to go camping with my entire family. My usual "Duty" (on and off) pocket knife is a Benchmade AFCK. Also on my duty belt I carry a Benchmade AFO. After only 5 minutes of looking this new knife over I left the AFCK in the glove box for the weekend trip. I was very impressed with it! We found a tree that a bear had been using to claw, very recently, while hiking. My daughter and nephew wanted a sample of the bark so out came the Vision! Samples were taken and tall tales were told at the camp fire that night of the mini Samurai SWORD that uncle Danny carried and how it could have chopped down that tree or easily kidded that bear. Well I dont know about all that but I want to say that I have a new standard every day carry knife!! AND I CAN'T BELEAVE ITS BEING DISCONTINUED!! I have carried this knife for just two weeks now and I LOVE it!! I carried the AFCK for years and I dont miss it. I also just got back from a week-long diving trip to the S.C. coast. In two weeks this knife has covered alot of country and cut alot of stuff. Its still as sharp as the day I bought it and looks brand new!! As for the lock, I have to say I was woried about this new type, but now I dont know what else I would ever want! I go back on duty next week, I'm teaching a Cub Scout troop "BB marksmanship" and then teaching at the local Law Enforcement acadamy every night. I'll be carrying a new "Duty" pocket knife and I have no doubt that the Night Vision will preform every desired task!!

I do have two questions.

1) I know the blade is ATS34, great stuff! And the handles are G10, AWESOME stuff for those of us that get wet when we are getting wild! BUT what steel are the liners made of?

2) Is it just the Night Vision or is the whole Vision line being discontinued? I think the original Vision is the next knife for me!!!

And don't you guys think it would be great if SOG offered the blade with a Black Teflon coating?

Danny....Bud....you and me need to do some coffee and donuts! OK?

I know you've been busy, but I love talk with you just to see what's going on in your life to see if the bad guys or the good guys are winning the battles.

Call me when you get a chance. 888.SOG.BEST, ext. 228 (or ext. 240, Loretta, and she can find me).

Regarding your Vision. Man, the Night Vision is the one you want! G-10, Stainless steel liners, ATS-34 stainless steel blade. It's a great knife.

No, not the complete line of Visions are being discontinued, but it will make the SOG Vision the long upper end Vision (with Titanium handles).

Let know if you have further questions.

And Danny, please call me, bud!

Ron, what, exactly is being discontinued, and what is not? The only excuse I can imagine for discontinuing the Vision series is to replace it with a similar, but upgraded series, with a low riding pocket clip and super steel. The Night Vision is the best folding tanto available, by any manufacturer, and it would be a shame to see it go.

Hi Jason,

Here's your info:

SOG Vision (Titanium) - Remaining in production
X-Ray Vision (Zytel) - Remailing in production
Mini X-Ray Vision (Zytel) - Remaining in production

Night Vision (G-10) - Being Discontinued (some remaining in stock)

The Night Vision was discontinued only because of low sales (and to my great sorrow!).

The Vision series otherwise is alive and well. As is very common knowledge here in the forums, SOG Blackworks constantly has "black ops" projects of all kinds underway. Nuff said. ;)

FYI: We have several X-Ray Visions & Night Visions in straight-edge-only models remaining in stock (no SOG Visions left). We made 12 of each a couple years ago and have been trying to sell them with very little success.

Ron, do you have a picture of the straight edge Night Vision!!!? What do these sell for?

Ron & Mr. Frazer,

I understand you guys are running an international business and I know that can’t be an easy thing. But I have seen the great Tomcat, and other great SOG products that aren’t being discontinued. The Night Vision is, in my opinion, the greatest folding knife that SOG or ANYONE makes! I have carried a Benchmade AFCK for years now as my standard duty pocketknife. BUT, after carrying the Night Vision for only a few days I was won over totally!!! I have had so many people ask about it and it’s a sad look on their face when I tell them that this version with the G-10 handles is no longer in production. I don’t know if it’s even a remote option but I would like to vote to keep the Night Vision in production and make a suggestion that you could even try adding a Black Teflon coating to it to help with sells.

Anyone else want vote to keep the Night Vision?

Chris: Our pricing on the straightedged models match the MSRP of the standard models found here.

Danny: Thanks for your moral support and your impassioned plea. SOG has occasionally had to discontinue some of their more revered knives. It is never easy. I have a very personal connection to the Night Vision, for it has been my daily carry (as well as my personal favorite knife) for about two years.

It was the first American Tanto knife that I liked!
Bring it back!!!
