SOG NW Ranger 2.0 review...

Good stuff. I liked the first one a lot once I got the serrations off it. Lovely balance. I did think the Kraton was a little soft compared to some others so if the MK II is a little harder I'd like that aspect better. Fun utility knife if you aren't too hooligan with it.

Dylan that is a great job on that review!!

Looks to be a nicely designed, handy sized functional piece. Personaly I've stopped even looking at SOG's stuff due to their insistance of putting serrations on everything.

Nice review, thanks for the post. For the $75 street price I might pick one up. I like that it's flat ground, as opposed to hollow ground like a lot of the SOG fixed blades.

Great review buddy, I'd still sooner have a Hatchula though !!!!

ME TOO! That goes without sayin'! lol. I'm making myself one in the batch that's getting glued up tomorrow. I can't wait!

Took mine in the bush last weekend. Great knife for the bucks, and nicely contoured handle.. -1 for the grooved guard though. Will fix that soon. I put a couple of extra rivets below the handle strap on the sheath(not shown), as the loop was way too wide. Otherwise, good knife with an AUS-8 blade.

Curious: Just read your review posted in the link above, and about half-way through, just after the fuzz sticks, you say this knife is a piece of junk ??? What gives ? ( good review ,otherwise.)

I was being facetious. That sentence was well after it was established that I dug the knife. I'm captain simplicity when it comes to knives and tools. Just my dry sense of humor trying to be funny. ;)

"Overall, this knife is very well designed and it's simplicity and comfort makes it a great user. Needless to say, I hate this knife and think it's a piece of junk."

Cool man. It just threw me a curve-ball . Pretty good knife for sure. I wanted one for a long time, but hated the serrations model. When they released this one, I jumped on it, and have been very impressed with it.
Thanks.

Great job on the review. I'd like to know how you feel it compares to the RC4 or RC6 if you get a chance to elaborate.

Great job on the review. I'd like to know how you feel it compares to the RC4 or RC6 if you get a chance to elaborate.

The RC-6 (now ESEE-6) is really juuuuuust a little too big for me. It barely crosses over the largest size I like in a belt knife. I've had tons of knives in that size (Rat-7, BK-7, RD, etc.) and I just always thought them to be just slightly too big. I think that anywhere between 4-5" is ideal. So, between the RC-6 and the NW Ranger, I prefer the Ranger, but only because of size.

As for the RC-4 (now ESEE-4), that's a whole different ball game. You're taking about my favorite production knife of all time. I have a few of them and I love them to death. You absolutely can't beat that knife for size, useability, strength, fit & finish, and of course the warranty and company that makes it. I still say that ESEE makes the best production knives in the world. The price is right and what you get for your money is perfect. From a using standpoint, I think that the RC-4 gives you a little more confidence to use it harder, and I find it a bit more comfortable and intuitive.

You have that right on about the Esee-4. I just got my 3rd. That knife is quickly becoming my all-time favorite.

That was a really well done review Dylan! I've had my eye on that one for a while now nice to see in use pics of it.
