I have been searching old posts but cannot find much difinitive info on this knife.

I like the feel and the weight But am not sure about the AUS 6 Blade.

If anyone has any comments good or bad on the knife I would like some. I intend it as a part of a hiking pack to do general camp chores.

I have the same problem with the sog seal pup it seems good but the steel choice makes me a little worried. I've used it for some chores food prep, a little chopping and very little battoning the edge is still razor sharp after a few passes on my jeans leg. I've read that Sogs heat treatment is very good and that thier aus-6 blades have excellent edge retention but, those were all customer revies at retailers sights, and I'm sure they won't post too many negative ones.

That considered, the AUS-6 will most likely serve you fine. I've handled the NW Ranger and considered buying one for quite a while - but I never got around to it. You know how it goes... So many knives out there Anyway, if all you're going to do is camp chores, the knife will work fine.

I think people are really getting hung up on steels lately. Sure, steel types and grades make a difference, but what really are you going to be doing with the knife? Camp chores? How often are you really going to use the knife? My guess is AUS-6 will be fine. 420J2 would probably work, too, you would just have to sharpen it up more often.

I say, if you like the knife and you have the funds, buy all means pick it up, use it, and don't look back.

Dont ever doubt the almighty SOG. Nah really they are some very good knives. I own 19 of em. 9 Tigersharks (2 carbon satin, 2 plain edge aus6, 1 midnight Tiger, 4 current serated aus6), 6 Sog Seal 2000's, 2 Sog flash II's, 1 sog field pup, 1 Sog auto clip. None of them have ever let me down and they are all of the best quality.

Hikeeba is correct. I used, carried a SOG NW Ranger for about three years. I ended up giving it to my Brother, but was fairly impressed it. Flat grind, took and held an edge fairy well, and the Kraton grip was good.

I will tell you I ripped the grip a little, and mine had serrations at the bottom 1/3rd of the blade. I hate serrations now, but it's a good outdoor blade in general IMHO.

My only SOG is the Seal 2000. Good working knives, but not going to knock your ass off performance or price.

I only had mine for about 2 weeks. I used it down at the Niagra Whirlpool last weekend. Made 2 walking sticks, and gathered some firewood with it, and it held up ok.

Only problem I have with it is that the grind isn't straight. When I first looked down the blade, I could see that the tip 1/4 of the blade is slightly bent. So works fine.
