Hey, I've been looking at some of SOG's models recently and found they have a diverse product line that for the most part is very appealing. I know they might be made overseas but is the quality still there? Just looking for some thoughts on SOG

Yes, they sure do have great designs. Materials are decent and most of their knives use AUS 8 which hold a decent edge and very easy to sharpen.

In my opinion I think SOG just cares about the design and not the functionality of their knives.
They make great movie props.

I own 2 SOGs. I'm not a big fan. The Aegis has decent ergonomics, but the steel blows. IMHO, you will get more for your money with Spyderco or Kershaw.

i have a sog vision and the materials are there
titaniumn handel and vg-10 blade easy to sharpen

i love it very useful

I've had great luck with SOG and AUS8 steel. Some of them feel cheap because they're so lite-weight, but they are pretty tough. The SOG fixed blades are some of the most highly favored in production, even here on the forums. I really like the Trident Folder and the Flash 1&2 make great utility blades. They have such a wide range of designs its nearly impossible NOT to find something that fits your bill.

I think everyone's summed it up consistently. I have sort of an oddity, the Team Leader in Duratech 20CV. There's not much to it in terms of design and complexity, but the steel, blade shape, and ergonomics are excellent. They're discontinued, but can be found on Amazon and eBay. I also like the NW Ranger and am glad they brought it back in their line up. My primary use is hunting though.

I have a flash 1. I dig it. Rides low in the pocket (like invisible low). SUPER light. As has been mentioned, it feels kind of cheap, but it has proven otherwise. Good little knife.

I have 1 SOG (Flash 1) and it was a B-day gift. My Wife wouldn't care if I traded it but I just don't care to give it up! It doesn't share much time with my Spydercos, BMs or slippies, but when I want a small folder that absolutely disappears in my pocket it comes in handy. AUS-8 is not junk steel by any means.

Had a few folders and was not impressed. Heavy with blade wobble. I think there are better choices for the money.

my sog pentagon & spec elite although more tactical than some of my b.m.s & spydies are excellent quality. the vg10 heattreat is great --i hit a piece of steel slicing boxes in the garage & blade did'nt roll or ding.

flash 1 as a good all around edc knife. Better than "dress knives" for dress up occasions because it is basically invisible in your pocket.

At their prices and lack of originality, I think there are better choices available.

Ive owned a bunch of SOG's. Ive found there folder to be just decent except for their high end models which are very nice. the vulcan, tomcat, fatcat etc are all worth the money. Their fixed blades look nice but are not made out of the best steel and are really not ideal for woods tasks. I needed to chop down a small tree once and all i had was my tech bowie. I wasnt even about to try to baton with it because the tip it so thin it would probably break. If you're looking for a good fixed blade for an excellent price look at ESEE or swamp rat/ scrap yard. I would take their lowest priced knife over the highest priced sog any day of the week for actual use. the Regulator, Ratmandu, and ESEE 6 are all excellent blades that would fit the role of a sog fixed blade at a similar price point. Hope this helps.

The SOG folders I have owned have all had an unacceptable amount of blade play. Tightening the Pivot had no effect on the play. I don't care for the super low rider clips, whats the point of having a one hand opening knife if you need two hands to get it out of your pocket? Also, the clips break very easily.

I do like their fixed blade knives though.

I would stay away from the SOG Fusion line.

i ve had good luck with my sogs for the most part! Some of the handle materials used do seem kinda cheap on a knife of that price point. Love my SOG Creed!!

for the same price, you can get a VG-10 or even S30V from Kershaw, or get a much bigger knife from Cold Steel with the same steel (AUS 8)...

^^^good point! A Kershaw Lahar in VG10 comes to mind as does a Junkyard Dog Composite with a CPMD2 edge. Can be had for $75 plus shipping, and the Lahar about $10 cheaper.
