Right to the point. Here in a few weeks, I'm going to shell out the money to get my first combat knife. But, before I decide which one, I want opinions. So, Ka-bar USMC knife or SOG seal team elite?

My own preference would be the Ka-Bar. Long history / tradition. Made in the USA. Better price.
The Case USMC is nice too, and even less expensive.

If it's a knife to collect, maybe consider a Camillus USMC from an auction site? Camillus went out of business years ago, and their USMC sell for very little, even NIB examples.

Kabar without a doubt! Or even look into the becker line, you might see some beautys that catch your eye.

The KA-BAR USMC for me to . It's a great knife with a great history .

Ka-bar is carried by the Marines! Nuff said! KaBar without a doubt!

Good Luck!

The Kid

My brother was with Massachusetts 4th Marines in Iraq . . . was issued a Ka-Bar, but still bought the SOG and carried that instead! Just saying!

Ka-Bar is a nice blade, either way you'll end up with a good blade.

+1 for KaBar. While SOG's fixed blade designs are interesting, they're a little flashy and tacticool for my tastes. I've had bad experiences with their folders, but haven't owned one of their fixed blades. KaBar's prices and QC are better, the design is a tried-and-true classic, and they're made in the US. It seems like a no-brainer to me.

SOG carried by Seals . . . enough said.

Lots of knives are carried by SEALs, they aren't specifically issued a SOG. If you choose to believe what's written on the internet, some chose to carry one, but others did not. There are SEALs who supposedly carried Ka-bars, as well.

Well then.. The results are in. I've always been a Ka-bar nut, ever since my father let me use his 'Nam issue USMC, So I see no need to break from tradition on that.

But, no need to worry, dude. I'm still going to get the SOG as well, just some time down the road. And when I do, I'lk be pitting those bad boys against each other and making a review on it. To quote Connor Macleod: "There can be only one."

Great idea!

I have a SEAL that I like. However, I've carried a KA BAR for close to 50 years. It's a WWII issue and still slices paper cleanly.
