SOG overall quality

I'm thinking of buying the SOG Bowie. Since I'm in Kuwait and can't handle knives first hand I rely a lot on internet feedback. On the Assault Weapons Bows and Blads forum someone made a general statement that I'd be disappointed in SOGs. I'm going to ask him to elaborate but haven't had the chance yet. Any comments? Thanks.

Good question. I've found myself with about &120 credit as 888Knives... The SOGs have definitely caught me eye. I really like the mini x-ray with it's legal blade and deep sat clip.

in anycase, I too would like to hear more about SOG. Thanks LesoleilNoir

I own a large sog tech and couldnt be happier the handle is grippy the blade is very thick and I cant imagine anything going wrong with it. Its been holding its edge pretty well and the sheath that came with it is great. I wouldnt hesitate.

I own 3 SOG products and all have been top quality and problem free.
I would not hesistate in buying SOG again.
Cheers,
Gord.

Right now the only SOG knife that I own is the monster Tigershark.. The quality of this knife is very high, and I have always been pleased with every SOG knife that I have owned, and I'm sure that you will too. Also, SOG's customer service is top-notch.:).

I have heard great comments about SOG, but unfortunately, they don't have any knives that appeal to me. The Pentagon Elite II is almost appealing though...

SOG makes a fine product and has outstanding customer service. the only reason that I dont have more of them is that I prefer plain edges and am not crazy about tantos.

From my experience, SOG fixed blades are some of the best made, relatively low-medium cost, production knives. Especially for use where corrosion may be an issue (use around saltwater, water, humid environments, etc...).

SOG makes good quality stuff.
I had an old air sog lightweight that had a nasty little serrated edge, disappeared where ever you put it and felt great in my hand.
The little thing locked up solidly and even held an edge somewhat. Remarkably the airlines told me they didn't have a problem with it (pre 9/11). Think I gave it to my brother.

The seal 2000 model passed all the navy's tests and has been accepted for issue.
So they can make a blade and have even been using some cool steels like BG-42. Aww come on, Cliff can break anything!

Lately their stuff hasn't really been catching my eye.
Except for the SOG Tsunami. It looks like a pretty wicked little tanto.

Hey Q8.....did I ever tell you about the time I survived for a week in the Alaskan wilderness with just a SOG SEAL Pup, a 2 liter bottle of RC Cola and 2 Moon Pies?

and it was very well made.
now,it wasnt too sharp, but on a knife like this you do not want too thick of an edge. it would slice paper nicely, but barely shaved...thats pretty much how i like it on a work knife.

overall fit and finish is great. leather handle is comfortable, and i never had any problems with hot spots (ymmv).

sog makes a lot of knives that im not into, but there are a handfull that i really like (recon bowie, sculptura, etc).
ive never seen a sog that wasnt quality (except in the case of a few abused knives, which will happen to ANY knife, when abused)

sog as a company gets an 8 from me.
the bowies get a 9.

i think you'll like it.

VCAM: you sure you were in Alaska? Y'all sound more like one of them KY ho-mos:barf: And we were talking about the SOG Bowie, I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse (and I do, God I love Family Day!) than a Seal Pup in my sheath.

Yep....the worst part was the Grizzly attack on my fourth day out. Me and the pup quickly dispersed this critter and I ended up walking out with a Bear skin coat, hat, and a lovely matching handbag.

Shee-it! By the time that griz got done sodomizing you you were knitting baby booties and dreaming of the good life with lots of bear hugs.

The first good knife I ever bought was a SOG Tomcat, and that was about 7 or 8 years ago. If it wasn't for my Father going into the back yard and hacking down saplings with it, getting sap all over the blade, and then taking a brillo pad to it to clean it, I would still have it. I am big on keeping my knives looking pretty. Unless of course I am the one who scratches it up. I ended up selling it for a good price. Anyhow, for a folder that was used to chop about 20 2" baby trees down without needing sharpening, that's pretty good performance. Fixed blade performance in a folder. The funny thing is, this was done years before knives like the Spydie Chinook came out. Great knives, and performance. :)

I have a number of SOGs, and am very happy with them.
Their customer service cannot be beat, if and when you need it.

I have to agree that SOG knives are great knives, I own the Seal Pup and its quite strong and reliable. Good value for the money too

Came in here to - among other things
(like learning about kick-4$$ tomahawks)
to learn whether my Seal Pup is really as good a knife as I think it is.

Did a search of the archives, found this thread.

I learned two things:

1) Yes, it is a good knife.

2) Attitudes are ... um, sharp in this forum.

I think I've come to the right place.
