I've been thinking of getting a new knife recently due to being with a friend the other day when he bought himself a new one. I was looking through SOG and really liked the Pentagon Elite when I looked at it.... I didn't care as much for the Spec Elite from it's pic... But just read the review from Alberto Salas on here and saw the pics, looked much, much nicer in them to me than in the SOG pics.

So right now I'm thinking of getting one of these two, but am not sure. I'm not sure how well the blade design for the Pentagon would work compared to the other, but I was thinking of getting it just for being a little different and already having similar blade shapes in other knives. Just wondered what else people had to say on these. It seems most of the time I saw people saying they liked the Pentagon Elite and it was great, but they sold it or got rid of it somehow anyway.

I have ann X-ray vision and mini X-ray Vision and the Pentagon Elite is next on the list.

I like the Pentagon blade shape better than the Spec Elite shape. And it seems to fit the handle shape a bit better.

I'm very pleased with the quality of the SOGs - especially for the much lower price compared to other brands.

I had the Pentagon Elite... but sold it since I wasn't that keen on the blade shape. I would prefer the Spec Elite for that reason - great blade shape. The handle is OK, but I personally prefer handles that are thicker in the middle rather than "wasp waisted". Take a look at the Tomcat 3.0, it's a little more money, but I think it's a better knife.

I looked at both knives and eventually went with the Spec Elite rather than the Pentagon precisely because of the blade shape. In my opinion the Spec Elite blade shape is much more useful than the Pentagon's blade shape. In my opinion the Pentagon is more designed as a fighting type knife, and since I don't intend to do any knife fighting any time soon the other blade shape is far more useful. It could be used in self defense in a pinch, but is also more designed for more mundane (and common) every day tasks.

Also just a comment about the Tomcat, it's a nice knife but for some bizarro reason they don't sell it with a pocket clip so you have to carry it in a belt sheath. :thumbdn: Nothing says "I'm carrying a knife" like carrying it on your belt. (Hint hint hint to SOG)

The weight of the Tomcat makes it a little much for a pocket clip. I have a first gen Tomcat, and I'd not want to clip that to my pants...

Hmm hadn't considered that, is it really that much heavier than a lot of the other huge tactical folders out there?

Hello everyone, I'm new on bladeforums but own some SOG knives since a little while. I live in Belgium and fortunately, sog knives are easy to find here! that's very apreciated. I could say for sure that the Spec elite is something I really want... because I already own a pentagon elite II. Why? 1) I love big sized folders as disuasive weapons , 2) the arc-lock is undienably the best ,safe and reliable locking mecanism , 3) Sog knives are innovatives. The only things that stop me from bying the spec elite are because of the non-upgrade of this knife in comparaison of the pentagon elite !! 1) I love to have combo edge (plain and serrated) for their versality , 2) I prefer tini coating instead of bead blasted blade , 3) if I could choose, I would like a tanto blade instead of a drop point blade (but that's only my opinion) 4) AUS-8A is the common steel used by SOG, why don't upgrade it by a VG-10 (or AUS-10A or BG-42 in my dreams!!! THE X-42 SPEC ELITE II TANTO .... sniff ! )
But even like that, the spec elite is worth the buy.
