I just recieved a SOG Pentagon Elite (LARGE) model. I thought I would share some inital impressions.
First a basic description of the knife: BIG, the knife is pretty large, it has a 5" AUS-8 blade that is .160 thick. The blade is a modified dagger shape. This is the folding version of SOG's Pentagon dagger. One interesting area of the blade is the tip. The tip of the blade is angled SOG calls the tip style a "shark tooth". Which in therory should make for a stronger tip than a standard dagger point. The blade came from the factory razor sharp.
The lock on the knife is called an Arc-Lock, which looks simlar to the Benchamade Axis lock. Lock up appears to be very solid. The lock also keeps the blade very secure in the folded closed postion. The locking device is ambidextrous.
The handle is made of Zytel, which keeps cost down. Personally, I don't have a problem with "Space Plastics", good enough for a Glock and H&K guns good enough for a knife handle. The texture on the Zytel is about the best I've felt. Aggressive enough for a good grip but no so much so that it is uncomfortable. The knife has metal liners that run the whole length of the handel which the Zytel is secured to. This makes the knife feel more "stout" than Zytel handle knives without liners.
The pocket clip has a center cut out model. It looks very nice and provides for a discrete carry. The clip can be changed to the other side for left hand carry.
Overall for the price about $70.00 on-line, I think it's a pretty good buy. I'll let you know as time goes on as I use and re-sharpen the knife.
Thanks
