Unless the seller pulled a fast one on me, this is the VG-10 version. As you probably know there's a AUS-8a version out there too; so, be aware when buying.

I really like the balance of the blade; the "fulcrum," if you will, is located at the notch in the handle where the thumbstud seats when closed. So the weight is only slightly in the blade - primarily it's balanced.

The other thing I really like is the grip. The texture on the handle is great - not too aggressive and not too smooth. The only problem with the grip is that if squeezed hard in your hand, it kind of "caves in." It seems the liners/blade-housing design doesn't offer enough support to keep it rigid. However, as durable as the grip should be, I don't believe this really constitutes a major problem.

The Arc-Lock is fairly easy to operate, and it feels very secure. They, supposedly, are tested at 1,000 lbs. of spine pressure. The nice thing about the lock is that it seems near impossible to accidentally release it.

It's tip is sure sharp; quite befittingly, they refer to it as a shark-tooth tip. I can shave with the tip.

It is a bit... ok... it's quite big for EDC, but it works well enough for me. I stick it in the little pocket on my jeans and it doesn't stick out that much.

i have the aus8a version, and i find the flexibility of the handle material very annoying. i would much prefer a more rigid handle, maybe some thicker liners. it's not a huge detriment though, i know it would be near impossible to break, i would just prefer a more solid feel. not a big fan of the blade-heavy balance either. i give it a 6.5 out 10.

Same problem with the Griptillian; the handle just feels flimsy compared to an all-metal-framed knife. A Spyderco Endura/Delica feels sturdier, even though it's thinner and the handle has basically the same design, plastic w/ steel liners.
To be fair, the AUS8 version that I have - one of my oldest knives - is so chipped and beaten up that I don't even carry it any more - it's basically a pry bar now. I go to it when I have a task that involves reckless abuse of the knife, and it hasn't broken yet.

It's a shame SOG doesn't make a G-10 version, like their Night Vision version of the X-Ray Vision that I have. Nice G-10 scales with full SS liners that show from the side, not nested into the scale. Also, my Night Vision has ATS-34, not AUS 8 or the better, but still kind of soft VG-10.

However, I think SOG's arc-lock knife designs are great in general, just could use a little nicer materials, that's all.
