I'm accquiring the PE in November, along with the CRKT Ryan "Plan B"
But what I'm REALLY interested in is the opinion(s) of you forumite(s)
regarding the Dozier Thorn. It seems to be serviceable enough, but I checked out Brigade QuaterMasters catalog and it listed the weight as
8 oz, which I think is a bit on the hefty side. But I like this "dagger like ;) blade and am thinking of adding it to my collection. What say the augerers?

That listed weight is a typo, since the Thorn is closer to 1 oz, than to 8 oz (Ka-Bar site doesn't list a weight). It is by far the lightest medium-sized folder I own. The Thorn is a very attractive little knife. The blade has 2 short "flippers", and I found that the blade detent is so strong, that I sometimes cannot push the blade open with my thumb, unless I first manipulate the flippers to "unlock" the detent. Playing around with the pivot screw hasn't helped - I've loosened the screw enough that 2 handle slabs rattle slightly, with no improvement in the detent force. Others have not mentioned this, so it may be an issue with my knife.

Also, the screws which hold the clip and handle slabs are so small, that I can't tell whether they are hex or Torx. This is a pet peeve of mine, since I think that knives should be easy to disassemble and that screws should be of reasonable size. I'm afraid these screws will strip if I just look at them hard!

The lock on the Thorn is a modified liner lock which, when released, stops halfway closed, allowing you to remove your fingers from the path of the blade before closing the blade entirely. It's an interesting implementation, but still basically a liner lock.

I used to own a PE, and the Arc-lock was super-slick. I own many BM Axis-locks and the Arc-lock is just as nice. In fact, the PE felt the best when it locked closed - it just had a very solid feel to the action. I eventually decided that the dagger blade shape wasn't really what I wanted, so I got rid of the PE. [I bought the Thorn mostly for the gee-whiz value and don't expect to use it at all.] If you like daggers, you will like the SOG.

Weight at 8 oz is certainly a typo, KA-BAR Bob Dozier Thorn weights exactly 65 g what is just slightly over 2 ounces.
I’m not partial to dagger-styled blades because they usually have too thick edges. However this one is pleasant exception. The grind is pretty high, about 2/3 of the blade width and it is hollow so the edge is quite thin and well cutting. Very elegantly looking piece, you can’t be ashamed even carrying it with formal attire.

I've had my PE for a bit over a year and I like it. The lock seems solid and I've had no problems. The knife is quite aggressive looking, so I'm careful who I use it around. I'm pretty hard on knives and it's stood up to my use. I used it as a farm knife this last few weeks helping my Dad with the harvest and it's holding up fine. Lots of cutting of plastic strapping, twine, prying out staples, etc. Easy to sharpen. Easy to open.

I just got my latest AGRussell catalog in the mail. It gives the weight as 2.3 oz. This is a sleek looking knife .
