I recently purchased a SOG Pentagon Elite folder and wanted to say it's one of the highest quality made knives I've seen. The edge retention on it is great. I use it and it stays sharp! Anyone else like SOG?

Thinking about purchasing one, but I hate those stupid serrations. And the tip looked a little..... different. BTW, welcome to the forums.

Run. Now. If not, you will soon look at that knife as an overpriced tent stake.

uh...usakeithl...
you must be sorta new to knives...I have one too and it can use some improvements. Unless you have the new model with the arc lock.

Welcome to the forums.
Here people collect all types of knives plus there is also a SOG forum. You might try posting this ? over there and you will most likely get some friendlier answers. We all started out with different tastes in knives and evolve from there. Never mind what others think the only true rule to remember is "Buy what you like" As long as you do that you will always be happy with your collection. I happen to think that the SOG is a pretty decent lite-weight utility folder. A friend of mine picked one up at a show and he is quite happy with it.

usakeithl, welcome to the Forums, I hope you enjoy yourself here and your new knife. The longer you stay here the more you'll learn and the more you will want. The folks that post here run the whole spectrum of taste in cutlery items. Some will lead you to believe anything short of a custom or a Sebenza is a POS, don't believe it. Visit and learn from the different Forums here, there's a lot to learn and absorb, there are some real experts here and a lot of wanna be's. The final decision maker is you, if you like it and the price is right it's probably a good knife. Enjoy!

He hasn't seemed to make another post. I hope we didn't scare him.

Well Chang, ya win some, ya lose some and some ya break even.

Maybe he found his way over to the SOG Forum?
Or maybe his SOG was his first and his last knife? In that case he just dodged a big expensive bullet, so maybe ya did him a favor.

If I'm going to purchase a knife and I post something, heck, I want to know if some of you hate it and why. I usually end up buying it anyway. BUT I do appreciate negative critism from you folks, so please don't slam those who do so, after all, it is only their opinion. Very often negative critism will help me to either buy another knife better suited to my purposes or it will even affirm what I like about it. So please, continue to critisize, although saying "That knife is crap" usually isn't very helpful.
Now, with that been said, let me say, I like the BM Darkstar very much, and I would suggest that you, USAKEITHL, consider that knife. That knife, the pentagon elite, is my lease favorite SOG. Why? Because I find that linerlocks with plastic scales usually end up scraping against the sides. Maybe the one I looked at the shop was a lemon, but the action didn't seem smooth at all. If you like the Pentagon elite, you also might want to wait just a couple more months for the release of the Pentagon elite II. It will be a bigger blade, with metal scales. You can currently view it at the SOG website.
