;) First , let me say that I am a big fan of SOG and own several knives. In fact, I usually give SOG Access knives as a Xmas present .

Here is my issue: I own a Pentagon II and till today never had a problem with it. I work in Law Enforcement and need my knife to be a RELIABLE back-up. Today I had to use it and the spring inside just broke. Needless to say that I was very disapointed and quite p...off since I nearly sliced all my knuckles. :( :barf:

Question 1 : Is this a normal failure due to extensive opening of the knife or was I just unlucky and got a bad spring. I am concerned that this might repeat. [I picked the knife based on the design and the SOG claim of the 325 pounds torque resistance]. I LOVE the knife and would hate to have to switch to another model

Question 2 : If I have to switch I am considering the desert dagger. [ I am trying to keep all my fingers in one piece and do not wish to have a repeat with another folder.] Is the knife available in the same blade finish as the Pentagon II?.

Note to SOG: the knife is sold as a combat knife but the finish does not exactly guaranty discretion especially on a moonlight desert
night??? ;)

Question 3: Any hope of the PII with the new SAT technology ? [PIII may be?]

Thanks for answering me. SOG rules!

Daimo, I am a SOG fan also, I have been reading SOG forums for a while, and honestly can't remember anyone reporting an arc lock spring breaking. There may have been, but I have never seen or heard it. I own many arc lock models (5), have opened and closed them literally thousands of times, and no failure. So I would say they are really reliable.
I am retired LEO and understand your reasoning. If it were mine, I would contact SOG by e-mail here, warranty@sogknives.com , see what they advise, I am sure they can fix it for you very quickly. They care about their customers, and will make sure your knife will work perfectly. If you get it fixed, I really think you can trust it to last.
I have never seen a DD with a bead blast finish or powder coated. But this is one awsome knife, if you handle one, you will probably get it, it is just that nice. We will have to wait and see on your #3 question, maybe Chris from SOG will see this and let us know.
Robbie Roberson ;)

Robbie is correct about the warranty. You do not have to email, just send it in to 6521 212th ST. SW, Lynnwood WA 98036 attn: warranty. Include your name, address, and phone number as well as a brief description of what is wrong with it. We will take care of it and get it back to you. We will also sharpen and clean it if needed. ;)

I understand you do not want another mishap with a folder, however I did want to suggest the Flash II which does come with a black TiNi coating, or a Tigerstripe coating. Both non reflective. A have sold quite a few to Law Enforcement here in Washington State. :)
