hi guys im new in this forum and im a complete novice about this and i was hoping if u could help me out and give me ur opinions. i wanna buy one of this knives but there's a problem,i like SOG Pentagon better but its steel is AUS06 and the gerber guardian is high carbon steel,i wanna know if AUS06 is cheap compared to high carbon steel i dont know anything about this, which quality is better ?thanks::cool:

Aus6 isn't a great cutting steel, but for a dagger, it's just fine. I really really wish that SOG would put a freakin guard on the pentagon. I've had numerous dangerous incidents where i slipped onto the blade.

the Guardian makes for a more compact carry package.
the Pentagon though larger and heavier, provides for the user a much stronger blade.
i wouldn't dwell too much on the respective reputed steel qualities between the two at this point, since a dagger isn't intended for really anything much but...

both are overpriced, the gerber is tiny, the sheath turns to crap once you get sand into the locking system, and you're paying 40 dollars for a 440A stainless knife. Mine got stolen. Never owned a SOG pentagon, but there are better options out there for a dagger/boot knife style. Any of the custom makers on here would do a knife like that for probably less than 100 dollars. Or you could get a CRKT Sting, I have used mine for EDC self defense for a good long time now, stripped it and gave it the mustard dip for a solid gray patina. Then there's always the Boker AF and thee old EK boot knives and pig stickers. I'd take any of those options over the gerber

i really like the guardian but it rattles a bit in its sheath :(

i also think the crkt sting is a better choice. it can be found for less, and it sits securely in its sheath.

I had the SOG pentagon and it opened in my pocket during carry.

Other than that issue, it was a very smooth knife.

Wouldnt you know it,I have all 3. The Sting sheath sucks, nice knife. Between the other2,the Mini SOG wins.
