Comparing the two, SOG 5" aus8, Kershaw 4.4" aus8. Both have rubber grips. Kershaw about half the price. Anyone own both, either, opinions please.

The older SOG Pentagons made in Japan are such nice blades; I'd recommend one of those in a heartbeat over the newer ones, ahead of the Kershaw...

The current SOG Pentagon isn't what the old Seki Pentagon was. And the Kershaw Secret Agent isn't what the Trooper or Special Agent was.
Both will do the job if stabbing something is the idea. But Fallkniven Garm G1 and Gryphon M10 both in VG10 seem more interesting.
I'd even consider the Cold Steel Counter-Tac series I and II available in Aus8 or the new solid VG1.

Exactly; the older production stuff is what I was talking about as well; I've not seen any new production daggers worth buying IMHO....

I'm just getting into daggers and many of the ones I like are older production models. My modest crew of two nice customs (left and right of center) and some inexpensive productions:

I own the Kershaw Secret Agent, but I'm not a fan. It has a very thin tip. However, I've watched a video where a guy repeatedly stabbed through a car tire with one and the tip didn't break. So perhaps it's tougher than I thought.

But I tell you what, I've had this knife sitting in a drawer for a long time, still in it's box, never used, never carried, untouched factory edge. And I've just been waiting to find someone to give it to. So if you want it, and if you have a US mailing address, you can have it for free, including free shipping. No joke. Just let me know. I have to go to the post office later, so I might even be able to send it out today. I'd rather it go to someone who wants it than have it sit in a drawer for the rest of my life. :)

Killgar that is very kind of you.I'll be happy to help with shipping. Please email me for contact info. I'll be offline tomorrow but back sat nite.

to the Original question, I would take the Current Pentagon over the Kershaw. SOG has a soft place in my heart. If stabbing and damage is your goal, it will do both better IMO. I own both the Seki and Taiwan versions. I like the Seki far better. It is just nastier!

Between the current SOG pentagon in Aus8 and the Kershaw secret agent in 8Cr13MoV, I would choose the SOG.
