Just read that the current production Pentagons are AUS 6. Have they always been made from AUS 6?

I believe so. I don't think SOG is one to dumb down materials on models in production.
I know it sounds bad, but SOG's AUS6 is pretty good stuff. It beats out CRKT's AUS8. But I do agree that they should try to move up to some higher grade steels for their most common steels.

I would really love both the Pentagon and the Tsunami(unserrated) in 440C. I would be on that like a duck on a junebug. AUS-whatever just doesn't do it fir me.

I agree on the AUS-6 being a little low end, especially for the larger blades. It interesting that AUS-10 is used rarely. Is it a price issue?

fudo, isn't the Tsunami discontinued?

They may have been AUS-6 but I think SOG has been upgrading to AUS-8.

From the website: Pentagon Elite

The Pentagon Elite has a 3.9" AUS8, bead blasted blade with partial serration to perform a wide range of cutting applications.

From the website: Pentagon Elite

The Pentagon Elite II has a 5" AUS8, bead blasted blade with partial serration to perform a wide range of cutting applications.

For the intended roll/use of the Pentagon AUS-6 should be fine. It's not really a utility knife or a hard use wilderness blade that needs to hold an edge for an indefinite period of time. It's more of a back-up concealment weapon that needs to be sharp from the sheath into what ever prospective a$$hole your sticking it in. :)

SOG has the cover on the new Smoky Mountain Knife Works catalog. From glancing at it, I believe most of the new SOG knives offered were in AUS8.
