First let me say I love my Powerlock. In fact I bought a pocket powerlock for my son. Anyway the lock on the side with the saw (that cuts like hell) and the phillip's fails every time I use it. Is it a common problem and can I fix it or does it need to go back?

Bishop85gt, I don't really understand what you mean by "fails". But it really does not matter if I understand, I am sure SOG will help you if they can.
After the holidays are over, (SOG is closed), email them or call and explain your problem, they have a top notch warranty dept. here, warranty@sogknives.com or call 1-888-SOG-BEST and they will tell you what you need to do.
I hope this helps.

It does not hold the tool. It closes on my fingers. Without much pressure.

The spring is there and in place. I am begining to think it is maybe a slight flaw when it was made.

It sounds like you may in fact need to send your PowerLock in for repair. If you have not already call or email our warranty department and they will be happy to get the problem fixed for you. They can be reached at 888-764-2378 x229 or via email at warranty@sogknives.com. If you need anything else or do not get a response please let me know.

I heard the same problem from another user on flashlight forum. He also had lock failed stop the saw. it nearly cut his hand. This is design problem not isolated incident. :grumpy:
