Hi all, got a few questions for the the sog owners out ther. Right now i have a leatherman supertool 200. I am thinking about returning it to wal-mart and geting me the sog. had it less than a week. I know the pliers are ten times better on the sog, but has any body ttried a sog and another one side by side?? Is there a noticeable improvment with the sog?? And the tools, how do the tools compare to the leatherman tools?? I really like the 1/4" socket bit. So bacically i am looking for a sog that will be used in working on stuff, be carried daily, and weight is no issue. So does it sound like the powerlock sog is what i want??
forgot, any difference in the pliers and action on the powerplier and powerlock??

Thanks guys!!

I have an original Leatherman Super Tool that has served me well for years. The fit and finish on the SOG is (slightly) better. For example the Phillips driver is better on the SOG, as is the file. The pliers and handles are the big difference.

My everyday carry is a pocket power pliers because it weighs less in the pocket. The bigger tools stay in the tool box or pack unless I am on job site.

Hi Snapper!

I love my Powerlock(s) as many here know! ;) But I'm biased...:D

Here is a link to a thread that has some info, and links.

Failing that do a search for leatherman in the SOG forum.

I have a SOG PowerLock and a Deluxe PowerPlier. I used to own a Leatherman (original) SuperTool, but traded it off. I like the SOG products alot better, and the Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier is my EDC multi-tool. One nice thing about the SOGs is that they can be easily taken apart for cleaning and/or customizing.

Since these pliers should have wery good cutting ability with the wire cutters, what is some of the stuff you have cut?? Have you ever messed up the cutters??

Thanks Guys!!

Quarters. Muhahahahahaha! I wouldn't pit the wire cutters against something like a hardened knife blade though...

I tried cutting up quarters with my small Gerber multitool. Now there's a big dent on the wire cutter. :(

Lots of nails (some massonary), screws and memory wire (spring steel) for my wife for her jewelery making. Hasn't put a dent in the edge  (yet). By the way, the cutter section is great for pulling out screw heads as well.

well smoky mountain knife works in sevierville tennessee had two of the power locks yesterday, and they reserved one for me. I am going there tommorrow to get one. I live in knoxville and go there all the time so i would rather buy in person rather than on-line. I wiil report on my first impressions tommorrow.

Thanks all!!

Wow, i got them this morning. These are great, i haven't used them much, but they work good.I love the pliers and the tools aren't too shabby either. I even found an adapter to use regular screwdriver bits. I had this thing from sears where the is a 1/4" socket drive on one end and a 1/4" hex drive on the other.. It had a colar on it but the bit drove out easily.. So all in all the price is a bit steep, but worth it..

Thanks guys!

Glad you like it!:)

Give us an update when it has seen some use.:D I'm sure you'll like it even more.

snapper6356,

If you want to see something pretty cool, get yourself some 1000 & 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper and then some 2500 grit. Sand the handles of your PowerLock (finishing with the 2500 grit), and see how nice they shine...I even finished mine-off with some Flitz metal polish, and I can see my reflection in the handles!.:).

well after handling and using another day, i got a few more impressions. First, after handling the sog, all others feel like toys. Secondly i got to quit pampering these and use them. You know that first stage od a new toy where you babby it the you realize it aint gonna break, then you break all h**l loose on it, i aint got that far yet. Now a few questions fot you all, How many took off the little wings over the tools?? I haven't decided which i like better yet.. And secondly a notice hint of play in the jaw pivot, and gears. I am guessing as long it is just a hint i am fine and shouldn't worry unless that hint turns into a sign, Right??
And i am just curios, what are some day to day tasks you use a sog for???/

Thanks guys!!

I used my TiNi Powerlock the other day to adjust the bed level on the crib I assembled with them some time ago...

I've always kept the wings on... :D It helps them fly!!! ;)
