SOG Powerlock v-cutter or scissors

I'm looking to get a SOG powerlock and I have some questions:

1. Should I get the V-cutter or the scissors? which do you find more useful? And which is better for what particular tasks?

2. Is the black coating good for anything besides looks and non-reflectivity?

3. Is there a crimper on the non-EOD model or should I get the EOD model if I want to crimp (not EOD crimping, just regular wire and stuff)?

4. Whats the best (read: cheapest) place to pick one up? Also, anybody know where I can pick up one of the newest models with the gear covers and the new plier head? I'll ask this over at the SOG board too.

5. Any caveats of buying this other that the weight factor (i'm not concerned about this as its going on my tool belt and not EDC)?

Thanks

You are making a great choice. I have a regular powerlock that I love. The quality and strength are second to none. The internal components look a little rough compared to some of the other flashier models but they are tough and built for work. Should you need to replace them it is a quick swap with a few common wrenches. This feature also makes it easy to modify. I have the scissors in mine and they work fine. I have to admit though that my leatherman micra scissors are easier to use. I have noticed Sports Academy and Home Depot also carrying them now. I bought mine at a local knife shop about 3 or 4 years ago. The weight in my opinion is not that bad its ounces not pounds. Definately not for pocket carry, but the case is leather and really well put together. I honestly can't say enough about this tool. I carry it everyday on my belt and hardly know it there, until I need it. You really can feel the difference the compound leverage makes.

Personally, I'd stick with the scissors. The V-cutter is supposedly for slicing thru safety belts should you become trapped in a car. My thinking is that in the unlikely event this type of accident should occur, any ordinary knife blade will do just fine. Hell, cut the damn safety belt with your scissors if need be.

(You can probably figure out that I am no fan of the v-cutter.) ;)

I think the scissors has more uses than the V-cutter. Try trimming a hair with V-cutter.

By the way I want to trade a Brand new in the box black oxide Sog Powerlock for a Black oxide Swisstool.

I don't have a swiss tool to trade, but can I ask why you are wanting to make this trade? I dont want to end up in the same position after I get a SOG

I have a SOG PowerLock 62 on order. Can't wait to compare it with my current multi-tools.
