I like the SOG's pliers a lot, but how far behind is SOG when it comes to the implements on the inside? The saw blade in particular looks a bit cheezy

I think the SOGs are generally lacking in the finish quality of their internal tools. However, I think SOG's reasoning behind this is that all of the tools can be replaced at a very inexpensive price as they wear out. Instead of offering a super highly polished blade like Victorinox does or a premium knife blade like the Leatherman Charge series (which require being mailed back to their manufactures for repair/replacement), you can pick up a new SOG knife blade for $6.50 and install it yourself with a couple of wrenches/sockets. Not to mention, completely add or remove whatever combo of tools you would like.

Personally, I was a leatherman man for years. However, the quality seems to have slipped a bit. I bought a powerlock for the highly polished pliers, and I couldn't be happier. At my office, we get a lot of product delivered on skid pallets. The SOG V-cutter on the PL is great for that thick nylon strapping. Also, I really like the socket tool that allows me to snap on standard socket bits. It's a bit short, but it has done the job when I couldn't find my socket wrench. Honestly, I think the Vic saws perform the best (at least for me, anyway). However, the PL saw has worked just fine. It doesn't seem to bind or bow. Plus, it can be replaced for less than 7 bucks if need be. The rest of the tools are standard fair, screwdrivers, bottle opener, can opener, file, etc.

You can order them right from SOG. I think they included a little parts order form with the tool..which I didn't see and threw away:foot: However, a quick e-mail to their customer service department, and I had both an email as well as a mailed copy with a list of available parts. Pretty cool idea when you figure that most multi-tool impliments are going to get trashed pretty readily with use and abuse.

I concur steely_gunz. I love my powerlock. Tough as nails no frills pocket tool. Also I find that their leather belt sheathes to be of top quality as well, snaps over velcro any day. On a side note the gears in the closed position make one hell of an impact weapon.

i have extensive experience with both SOG and Swiss tool.

The Swiss tool is better made than the SOG and lighter too! The tools on the Swiss tool are much easier to deploy than the SOG. However, the SOG has the strongest pliers out there and they can cut wire much better. The knife on the SOG is sharper and has a nice point for use as a scalpel when needed (such as taking out splinters). The saw is double rowed and works extremely well.

Overall, the Swiss tool is best for EDC. You can clip it to your waistband or pants belt with an aftermarket nylon sheat with belt clip that is very high end. However, if you want to carry a bomb proof beast the SOG is the one to take. Probably best to carry in a pack or a very sturdy belt.

I carry mine every day in uniform one my riggers belt and have never had a problem, this is definately not a tool for around the office it probably would pull the dress pants right off.
