I absolutely love the SOG Recondo. I just bought my 4th one. Although I have a question about its authenticity. The first three I bought (2-Satin & 1-TiNi) had 'scalloped' serrations and had "S. Frazer" on the exposed tang and lanyard hole. The latest purchase has a slightly more polished blade, more typical 'steak knife' serrations and NO "S. Frazer". All of the other markings are identical (even on the sheath). Do you think that the latest is a fake?

Also ... the latest Recondo "rattles" in the sheath. Is there a way to tighten the fit of the sheath?

I've never owned a Recondo, nor have I studied their variations, so I can't help you there. If you could get us pictures of your 3 Recondo's that would help those in the know.

I didn't know they still made the Recondo. If Kydex, you might be able to heat the mouth of the sheath opening with hot water or a blow dryer and reform it around your knife again.

Thanks for the pictures. Can we see the other side of the knives? Do any of them have the RC listed? IE RC-60? I ask because the first few batches of Recondo's were heat treated to 64 RC and were on the brittle side. SOG Lowered it to 60 and started etching RC-60 or 60-RC on some blades. I used to have a Field knife [BG-42 steel also] and it had the rc stamp on it, if I remember correctly.

You are correct about the earlier ones--I have one (can't remember exactly when I got it) and it has RC 62 etched on it. Must be even earlier than the ones marked 60 if wildmanh is correct on them reducing the hardness throughout the first run.

Here's a picture of the marking from one of New Pig Hunters Recent scores:

The top three all have "Rc 62" marked on them. The one in question has "Rc 60".

Good catch. I hadn't noticed this.

fade,

I'm thinking not a fake. At the SogCollectors page, Recondos are shown with both "straight" and "slanted" serration styles.

clayton (above) provided a recommended Kydex adjustment method: heat !!
I utilized a more "redneck" method: I held the Kydex over a match. Got the job done OK, but the Kydex got a little melty.

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. four of those Recondos ..... WOW !! those are quite rare, so you are one lucky guy to have 4 of 'em !! Congrats !!
