I was wondering how the sog revolver locks the blades in place and how the blades rotate? thanks for any help

The SOG Revolver has a sort of spring loaded pin that locks the blade in place for use. The pin size is substantial, and is difficult to unlock when using the knife. The blade pivots on a seemily beefy pivot pointwhere the balde/handle union would be on a regular knife. I do not own SOG Revolver, but I have handled them, and they seem pretty nifty.

Hey GUys...

Awesome Knife..

I've got both the Hunter and the Seal Pup version..

Very well thought out,, and I have no fear of the blade rotating while in use...

The Hunter is part of my bush kit when I go hunting, and use it to clear up brush and shooting lanes for a couple years now..Saw still cuts like a chainsaw.....

I received the seal revolver for Christmas and although I haven't used it much yet, it seems to be very well made. I'm in the Landscaping industry and the saw is similar to Felco's folding pruning saws. The Sog saw should work well indeed and is somewhat sturdier than the Felco saw although about an inch and a quarter shorter saw blade.

Thats one reason why I didn't buy a revolver, I have a feeling if you use it and abuse it enough it will come bite you back in the ass. but thats just prob my insecurity with folding blades and in this case folding long blades? fixed blades? i dont know how to classify the revolver

Hey Guys..

Kevshin.

Theres very little chance of the Revolver hurting you..Short of complete and utter pin failure I don't see how it's possible...

If you do a "search" on the forum, some photos of the large locking pin can be found. Excellent photos and a good review can be found here. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=354507&highlight=sog+revolver

I have the Revolver Hunter; and would not use it if I thought there was any way this thing could fail. I see absolutely no chance of compromising the locking pin without totally destroying the handle. If one could destroy this knife (some on the forums could destroy a tank with a plastic fork), I would suggest he chose the wrong tool altogether -- he needs something other than a tool optimized for cutting.

The Revolver is super simple to use if one simply reads the included instructions. This will ensure that the fingers stay out of the way when rotating the blade.

The saw blade is excellent, BTW. Very aggressive with a double row of teeth, providing a nice clean cut without twisting or sticking in the material.

A well-thought-out knife with durability to spare.

I don't know maybe its just my insecurity with cheapo knives, I probably have this generalization of folding knives which i know its incorrect but still is stuck with me. Do you guys know what i mean? its like when you are a kid and you loved ice cream, you eat so much of it that you get sick and throw up and avoid it after.

Well, in a sense its a fixed blade, and it is much stronger than a normal folding knife. Like normark said, the only I can see it failing is if the Pin goes, And I have never seen that happen, ever, anywhere.

But dont get me wrong, I can understand where your comin' from, I've had my share of cheap folders bite me.

Thanks guys for the positive remarks about the Revolver knife.

I have a special place in my heart for my Revolver knife.

One of the high lights of my life was when SOG informed me that...........well below is a quote in this years SOG 2007 product catalog.

"The SOG black TINI SEAL Revolver was recently chosen to be a part of the Personal Environmental Protective Survival Equipment (PEPSE) system for Special Operations Forces deployed in cold weather conditions"

I've never been so proud in my life, especially since I know where it started from.

And as if these things are not enough, I am blessed to have people who use the Revolver all over the world continue to tell me it's a very useful knife.

you can throw my vote in for the revolver also. i use mine on my trapline and it is super handy for cutting and sharpening wooden stakes, etc.
now for the mini-revolver? another nudge....

Great article, Robbie. And, a super invention, too!

I have seen other revolvers of sorts (two straight edge blades...no saw), years back, made by custom makers, but nothing as simple and well-designed as the SOG Revolver.
