i just bought a SOG S1 Bowie on the spur of the moment without really taking the time to research it here as i should have :)

i would like some brutally honest opinions about this blade from you experts here. just wondering what you guys think of the blade as far as quality, construction, steel, durability, etc, hold nothing back :P

note i got it for just under 200. and that it (or at least the steel) was made in japan (which ive heard is inferior to the older ones made in USA?) it certainly looks and feels nice :)

I don't know much about that model i particular, but SOG's fixed-blades generally hold up well. This one's a carbon steel blade, correct? It should hold a decent edge for you, and as long as you keep it clean & dry it should be fine.

Congrats on a nice blade, I'd pick that over a Ka-Bar any day. :o

Peace.

I own an S-1 and I like it alot. To me its a very cool knife to carry around in the camp or in the woods because alot of non kife people recognize it. Now for use I have chopped and done field work with it and it does ok, the blade to me doesnt lend itself that well to chopping, it does sharpen easy enough and I feel that it stayed sharp long enough for most of what I was doing(cutting rope, meat, small wood chopping etc). I do think it slices pretty good. I like the knife but let us know what it does for you and how it holds up to what you do to it. Remember no purchase is a bad purchase is YOU like it.
