Hi Guys (and girls?),

I'm thinking of buying the SOG scuba/demo. For me, this knife looks like a beauty! Anyone has experience with SOG knives in general and this one particular? Is the serrated part on the back really sharp and can you use it for cutting rope i.e. or is it just decoration? How sharp are SOG's right out of the box?
Any idea why this knife is so expensive? ($310 on the SOG-site)

Most commercial knife makers don't depend on sales from their site to makes money, rather they depend on their retailers and distributer for that. As a result they list the full retail price knowing full well they will be sold below that price by their network of dealers. It allows the dealers to offer prices well below retail to boost sales which in turn mean the manufacturer sells more as well. Enough of Economics 101...

SOG knives have a great rep for quality and the ones I have bought have always had a great edge on them. The serrations on their knives are normally sharp enough to chew through most rope or webbing. We sold their knives for years in the shop and never had one returned and often had problems keeping them in stock.

I don't know the Scuba Demo but the Recon Bowie is awesome !!!
Probably one of the best factory knife in his category IMHO ... Now discontinued :grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

Is the Scuba demo more a presentation knife, or is it also the "real stuff" ?

Better make up your mind soon- it has been discontinued. I picked one up when I heard that- it is a really beautiful knife. I can't remember if I got it from the Cutlery Shoppe or Grand Prairie Knives, but I paid between 160-170. Mine shaves hair out of the box and the serrations are sharp. I would recommend it, it is a very sturdy yet very attractive knife. Just hurry and get one before they are gone.

I bought an early SOG Bowie, best factory knife I've ever owned. I would not hesitate to recomend a SOG knife.
Rocky, did you notice that the retail price on your add is less than your sale price?

I've got pretty good experience with SOGs as well. In fact, they are one of my favorite manufacturers.

RockyNational's price is pretty good as well if you factor in the free shipping and 15% bladeforums discount

How sharp are SOG's right out of the box?

My trident and Seal-Pup were / are the sharpest two knives out of the box I've ever owned. Rivaled by my spyderco and benchmade the only difference was that the SOGs held their edge even through my beating. I at one time used my seal-pup as a wedge to split wood... aside from some scuff marks the knife was unscathed and still sharp.

@ Rocky National: Is that true, do I get a 15% discount on your price? That would be great! Certainly if that price includes shipping! Pse send me a PM to confirm the price! Can I pay you with pay-pal???? Do not worry, my shipping adress is within the US; believe it or not; in Wisconsin! :D

According to his signature, you just enter bladeforums as the discount code

"15% off any order Coupon Code: BLADEFORUMS"

The retail price we have is 288.00, the line makes it look like 200.00

Yes right now we have free shipping and 15% off any order. You can use the code on the site, call, or PM me for orders. We accept paypal as well.

WI orders have sales tax though :(

Rocky,

I'm thinking of ordering it! I can't find out how the PM service works here! What do you mean with: "WI orders have sales tax?" You only have to ship it within Wisconsin.

Pse send me an PM and give it your best shot!

Says I can't PM you

But anyway we are located in WI so any sales in WI we have to collect sales tax on.

Scuba Demo reg price $202.95
15% BladeForums Discount ($30.44)

SubTotal: $172.51
WI Tax: $9.49
Total: $182.00

Paypal address is ebay@rockynational.com

Rocky, I'm ordering from the Netherlands. The knife has to be shipped to WI. There I will pick it up later. Is the sales tax still applicable then?

Before you make a dive-knife purchase, I'd check out Mission Titanium knives, also.

Sorry Culpeper, I did't know were to place this thread , so I bed on two horses....:(
