Can anyone tell me what type of opening feature is used in the SOG Sculptura? SOG's description on their website reads, in part "The essence of this masterpiece is our ambidextrous Arc-Lock assuring that its action is impeccably smooth, swift, strong and safe." Is the Arc-Lock™ similar to Ken Onion's Speed Safe? The knife in question is located here

I'd especially like to hear from any Sculptura owners. Thanks in advance!

The Arc lock is fairly similar (operationally anyways) to the Axis lock used by Benchmade. That is, it opens very smoothly and locks securely. The lock also helps hold the blade closed. It's manual, not auto or speed assisted.

The Sculptura is unusual in that there is *no* openning device on the blade itself -- no thumbstud, nail nick, hole, disk, etc. You can either grasp the back of the blade between two fingers and pull it open, or just pull the lock open and flick out the blade (on mine this requires a certain amount of arm waving).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for replying. I noticed that there was no thumb-stud or other such device on the blade. So I was very curious as to how this knife was meant to be opened. Thanks for clarifying. Can you give me a "product review" on your Sculptura? The picture I've seen of it was enough to make me want one. I asked Santa to bring me one and I've been very good this year! :D
If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to send me a photo of your Sculptura? I'm curious to see if it resembles the one pictured on SOG's website, with the greenish translucent handle. Feel free to email it to me. Thanks again...

It's a nice small knife, and the flat ground AUS-8 blade cuts pretty well. It doesn't have the most ergonomical handle I've ever seen -- not bad, but not as good as most of my small Spydercos (Meerkat, Navigator, Dragonfly). It is good for just dropping into my pocket, particularly if I've got some other stuff in there as well, since the handles seem pretty durable. I don't find the clip works too well in a watch pocket (you can just shove it in unclipped, of course), rides a little too high.

Don't have a digital camera or scanner, but I can confirm that the handles are a translucent green. It's not a really striking green, though, because under the zytel are full steel liners. You can see the Arc lock machanism through it, which is interesting, and some light also gets through around the edges.
