Hi!
I have the opportunity to buy a knife, allegedly SOG SEAL in 2000. By the appearance, size and model it should be the SOG SEAL 2000. According to the pictures on the internet I noticed some differences:
1 - coating - on my is flat black, similar to SRK
2 - the markings on my are not engraved, but inprinted
3- it has no markings on the other side...as far as i know, it should be marked SEKI-JAPAN or TAIWAN

Did anyone of you have already seen such a model?
Is it a copy / fake or a commercial version? Or the real deal?

Any information is welcome.
Thanks in advance!

well it LOOKS legitimate but i can not say for certain, I'm not even sure i can confirm or deny this do to Blade Forum's rules and what not..... It looks much like mine; however, I high polished my blade so I have 0 markings on it

your best bet would take it down to your local knife shop or sports store and ask them to do a side by side comparison

far as i know there aren't any good SOG wanna be producers out there

I think it might be a fake on my Seal there is the Sog logo with the knife splitting a bullet but I am not sure if they started doing that later or if they have always done it so like the rest not a hundred percent sure.

the bullet split is relatively new..... did some research, its quite possible that it is a Sprint knife blade, but like i said not 100% on the ID
& BPEEZERS right, phonies can be just as if not worth more than the genuine
and besides if it holds up who cares!! :D

I'd wager it's a fake for the following reasons-

1. No country of origin mark. If it was legally imported then I believe it would, by law, have to bear the country of origin on it. If it were made in the USA, then I would think that SOG would have proudly marked it as such.

2. Look at the lettering of the words "SPECIALTY KNIVES" in pic #6, the letters look uneven, crooked, and of different sizes. Look at the size of the "S" in "KNIVES" compared to the rest of the letters. They look like they were put on by hand. I think if SOG were going to go to the trouble to create a stencil or stamp to identify their knives they would have gotten the lettering straight and proportionate.

Good eye with the lettering. I hadn't noticed it until I rechecked, and you were right. The lettering looks like total crap. I would reckon this is a decent looking fake, but a fake nonetheless.

I would definitely say this is a fake unfortunately.
I'm looking at both my original Seki city SEAL 2000 blades and they have the lettering and country of origin engraved.
Also I don't think SOG made a midnight black version of the SEAL 2000 only the traditional grey powder coated style.
