Which to buy? I am looking for a good general purpose knife.... primary use will be backpacking/camping but will probably be with me wherever I go.

Thanks,
Michael

I was out in the backyard last Sunday and had a chance (finally) to field test my SOG Tigershark. I was a-whomping and a-whapping and a-hacking away at some tree shoots and such.... made short work of those. The size and heft and sharpness made things easy.

I didn't get a chance to field test the SOG Seal, but I think it would have done just fine too !!!

Cheers,

Carl

If you happened to check my post about the SEAL 2000 in this section, I did manage to chop up some limbs and twigs and some very tough plastic. I went inside, washed it, dried it, and it looks brand new. Very good quality for right around $100.

My personal thought would be that if you are using it for food prep, etc, the SEAL might be a bit thick for slicing (so too the Becker...) I'd take the SEAL and a smaller knife (SOG Field Pup ! GREAT little knife for the money!)) for kitchen duty. To paraphrase Serg... try peeling potatos with it...:D  :grumpy:
If it's for firewood chopping, etc, then pick the knife with the most comortable handle. Make sure it has a good grip too! You'd be amazed how easily a sweaty knife can fly away when chopping...  :footinmou

I haven't used a Seal, but I do own the BK-7. It's performs very well, and you won't be dissapointed if you get it. One advantage it has over the Seal is you can hammer with the butt of it. However, if the Seal is even close to it in terms of being a good knife, you won't be unhappy with either one.
