I really like the looks of the SOG seal series. They are pretty useless as a wood working knife imo. I've been really wanting to have some kind of tacticool knife to just have. Well, I can't really afford a just to look at knife..It's called the SEAL right? So I though it'd be to show off, and too use around the water..can you do this? I've had pretty good luck with aus8, and it's been very easy to clean, and I've had no rust issues. I thought the coating would make it even better. So what are you thoughts? Can this knife be submerged? I'd use more of a kayaking knife, so more of how it acts around water would be nice to know. Thanks.

Spyderco AquaSalt or Jumpmaster would be better suited to in water activities then any other knife I can think of. H1 steel cannot rust, great construction, etc etc.

What makes a world of difference is whether the "water" you're referring to is fresh water or salt water. A knife that's fine after being submerged in a lake or river may not be suitable around salt water.

I carried a Cold Steel Voyager with AUS8 steel while scuba diving off the coast of Roatan and the blade quickly turned orange with rust after each dive. I bought a Katz dive knife with their ZT70 steel and found it also rusted easily in salt water unless I coated it with silicone grease first.

The only knives I recommend for scuba diving in an ocean are those composed of titanium or H-1 steel.

I would be around fresh water near all of the time with it. I would get a h1 knife, but the fixed blade's are mora expensive then a seal. Titanium is very soft I hear too.

Titanium isn't really suitable for a knife blade. Max hardness is something like 48Rc, and they're so expensive.

H1 isn't as expensive as it seems, you're getting a lot of knife for your money. You can get an Aqua Salt for under $100 and it will last longer then most other fixed blades would. H1 is not only totally rust free, but it's very tough and impact resistant. IIRC Spyderco put the tang of a Pacific Salt at a 60 degree angle and it didn't fracture or split.
