Sog Seal pup

I am picking up an older Seal Pup that is made in Japan.
Is this AUS6 or AUS8?
Does anyone now about when SOG shifted production fronJapan to Taiwan
on this model? Thanks.

This is not correct. There is no difference in steel between elite or standard. The difference comes from Japan or Taiwanese produced. The older Pups made in Seki are Aus6. The newer Pups made in Taiwan are Aus8, whether they are elite or standard.

Personally I like the blade profile of the newer version:

Craytab, thank you for posting that side by side picture! I rather liked my Seki made Seal Pup, except for the serrations and the fact that the edge starts so far from the guard. . . After looking at your picture, I noticed that the blade starts much closer to the guard on the Elite. The Elite is way more tempting now. :)

Yes, this is why I like it more. You get more blade and a less blocky choil. BTW that is not an Elite. It is the Standard AUS8 Taiwanese Pup. The Elite has rasps up and down the whole spine. Also, the Elite comes in different finish options and there is a version without serrations, which would be nice.

Oh right, thanks for the reminder. I should have remembered that. :foot: :o So the question is, Coated or satin, serrations or plain/straight edge? he he
