Does anyone have one and would they recommend it?

To set the stage, I have about $70 in Cabelas bucks to use and they have their current offer of $20 off a $100 purchase, so I effectively have $90 off. This limits my purchase options, but I want to pick up a clip folder to be my EDC while over in the sandbox. I am kinda looking at the Benchmade Griptilian or the Spec Elite I.

I already have a Gerber multi-tool (prefer my SwissTool, but I prefer to break or lose what I am issued), a Gerber Covert FAST, and a Gerber Recon-M on my belt. I am pretty much a Gerber military advertisement.... :)

Thoughts or options based on what Cabelas offers in folders?

I carried my Spec Elite today at work... it is a great knife. the arc lock is good, waaaay easy one handed operation. Good steel... I've never had a Griptilian but they are praised often enough. I guess you cannot go wrong either way.

What are your thoughts on size, is 4" too big? How is the balance? Grip?

I ask because I like the thought of the reverse curve blade.

The Grip is available in D2 steel from Cabela's, which is a superior steel for general use. In addition, the Grip has the very secure Axis lock which makes one hand opening and closing both easy and safe. The locking mechanism is easily cleaned out and will perform well in the harshest of situations.

Some will comment that the Omega springs used in the lock can break, which has been known to happen, but there are two for redundancy sake. If in the worst case scenario both springs were to break, a stick or sliver of wood jammed behind the locking bar will effectively give you a 'fixed' blade.

You may find this interesting.

apf gives an excellent review[ the dog was super cool] .i've been carrying spec elite 1 for a month & love the handiness & edge holding. have used the b.m. axis lock for yrs. the vg10 of sog & the b.m. d2 are real close in equal edge durability. i slammed the elite into piece of metal cutting some cardboard & edge did'nt even ding.i find the axis lock a little eaiser to access but that could be muscle memory since i've used them much longer. sog vg10 seems to take a slightly keener edge. now if this is important the sog arc lock opens left handed so well you think you are left handed. sog is light & fits pocket with small signature. for blade strength i give it to b.m. but for slicing it goes to elite.either knife is great . i advise you holding & opening each knife & retrieveing from pocket before a decision.

4" is definitely not too big, but I am a big boy. The knife is well balanced and actually feels smaller in the hand than it really is. I like the handle material (glass/kevlar reinforced zytel according to the website) as it grips fine in the hand, and slides out of the pocket easily.

After having the chance to hold both knives, I went with the grip. They are both excellent knives and the one I would prefer would be a combination of both. In the end, I chose the grip for the better execution of marrying the blade to the handle, a more ergonomic handle, and a more tactile handle.

Like I said, both are very nice, I just went with the blade that fit my hand better.

Thanks for all of the help, the order went in 10 minutes ago. Now for the wait...
