Could anyone give me some information on the difference between the SOG Spec-Elite II SOGSE18 and the SOG Pentagon Elite II, other then being serrated and the weight?

What knife is the newer version?

Which is more popular?

Any other information you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks

kxm, they are very similar. I have the Spec-Elite II and let me tell you... it is HUGE for a folding knife. 10.75" looks a lot bigger in real life.

The PE-II and SE-II are the same size... basically the only difference will be blade shape/style.

The PE, I think, has somewhat of a penetrator tip and is partially serrated. The SE has a recurve blade with no serrations. I know, from my SE-II, that the blade is very thick.. it is nearly as thick as my Severtech which is 3/16" or .188". That is VERY hefty for a folder.

Hope this helps.

swimmerdude1127,

I just can't decide which one I should get? I like the blade length because in my state I'm allowed to carry up to a 5 ½ blade. Another knife that caught my eye was the Benchmade 10100 Benchmade LFK Folding Knife, but I shyed away from that because of the locking mechanism.

If you were to buy one today which would you go for, the PE-II or the SE-II, or do you think both are equally as good?

I'd go for the Spec Elite. The Pentagon has a unique look to it, and is quite functional - it was my first EDC - but the Spec Elite is usually more practical. The reverse curve is suited to a more diverse array of cutting tasks, and the point is actually more acute - not to mention exponentially easier to sharpen.
If the SE had been available when I first got into knives, I would have had one instead of the Pentagon. Just my two cents.

kxm, if I were to buy one today... I would get a PE since I don't have one yet:D

But say if I could have only one of the two, I would also probably go for the SE-II, because the recurve really slices well.

If I could get a PE II with NO serrations and maybe a coating, I'd have it. But I can't so I'm getting a SE II.

I'd go for the spec elite series because of the blade shape. I couldn't really do anything practical with my pentagons tip since I wasn't "poking" bad guys with it all the time. The curved edge on the spec elite will suite whatever purposes you need it for.

Now that I think about it, I'd wait a few months and shill out a few extra bucks for a Visionary II; better steel, same great blade, comfier handle, and in an all-black dress to boot. This one looks like the most attractive arc-lock knife to me, barring maybe the Tomcat 3.
