Is anyone else waiting with great anticipation for this knife? Back in the day, the Sog Stingray was one of my favorite knives. The solid construction and thick blade were great pluses. After I discovered "thumbers", the Sogwinder I found it's way into my collection. It was a great knife, but the position and the length of the thumb stud made it a little trickier to sharpen.

It looks like the new Sog Stingray 2.0 will be a similar to the above knives, but a tad larger and will come with much better blade steel. I like the looks, except for the weird cut-out handle were it says "Sog". I have nothing against manufacturers putting their name on something, (although sterile blades are pretty cool too :D) but I'm wondering if that part might be uncomfortable in the hand. Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on one and try it out. This knife would be my first knife ever with the "Arc-Lok"...

Not so much. I would have MUCH preferred the 2.0 to be nothing more than the original Stingray with the Arc-lock and a pocket clip, and cost around $120. I really don't like the 'SOG' cutout they put on so many of their folders today.

Well, I was able to handle a one (with carbon fiber inserts) at Blade Show West 08 and here is what I found:

Pros: Good weight, very smooth action, good fit and finish, solid lock-up.

Cons: Very small plastic washers in between the handle and the blade. Although the finish on the knife looked great, it was very slippery in the hand. I have seen some pictures of the Stingray 2.0 with dual thumb lugs, but this one only had the lug on one side (not sure what to make of that).

Overall, I was a little disappointed, but perhaps I had my hopes set too high. The knife was nice, but somehow felt less rugged than the old Sogwinders/Stingray. Anyway, just my two cents.
