About 5 or 6 years ago I was working in the Tool dept. of this fairly large home improvement center here in sprfld. OR. and in walks this man in his late 50"s I'd say. He's got on this baseball cap and windbreaker, He's got the sunglasses and goatee. He looks like a pretty hard dude, not real friendly or anything but not really unfriendly either. I guess just the kinda guy you'd instinctually know not to mess around with. i introduce myself and offer my assistance, He's just lookin' so i notice this hat and jacket have special forces insignia/ emblems on them, so i asked him if he had been in the special forces? At that time I was friendly with a guy who had been in the 7th group, so I worked that in. he responded to my question by asking me if I ever heard of MACV SOG? to which I said I had (read an article or something) I don't remember the details of the conversation as well as I'd like but i did ask him if he'd ever been shot at, To which he, Bruce, thats his name bruce, said "almost every time he went out. he didn't want to spend a bunch of time talking about it with me but he did recommend a book "Secret Commando's , by John Plaster. he said that'll give me an idea what his missions were like. he gave me his business card, left and I didn't see him again for some months.

in the next installment I'll tie it in to SOG knives.

Oh and the business card said International judge of some Martial art, don't remember the style.

interesting .....

I've read the Plaster book ..... very informative. And a pal of mine was Army Special Forces in VN, did some of clandestine stuff. But he won't straight-out tell me if he was a SOG kinda guy, or just did some stuff he's not supposed to talk about.

Cheers,

Carl
