Sog super bowie

I just ordered one. I hope to get is soon. It is my first SOG and this is my first post here. Does anyone else here have one and what do you think of it?:)

Hey, santino34 Welcome to Bladeforums.
Just went to look at a few days ago, looks like a nice blade. you'll have to lets all know when you get and how you like.

I'll now utter those famous last words, "one of these days I'm gonna get one of these." And I hope it's sooner than later........

Please let us know your impressions when you get your Super Bowie.

Cheers,

Carl

Thanks for the welcome. I looked around on the net for a while for a SOG Bowie. I wasnt sure which one I wanted. I liked the look and size of the Super Bowie and found the lowest price at AAPKBLADES.com. Now comes the wait. I just hope I dont get an email saying they are out of stock! They had 1 in stock when I ordered, but still showed 1 in stock even after I placed my order and got my confirmation. Hmm?

It's a very heavy knife, for its size.

If you check SOG's specs, the Super Bowie weighs a good 5 ounces more than the Scuba Demo, even though they both have 7 inch blades and leather handles. The Super Bowie even weighs more than the 9 inch blade Tigershark.

How is the quality of the steel on these knives? I understand that they are made in Taiwan. If that is true, are all SOG knived made there and if so, so what? Thanks again.

I checked the SOG website...
Super Bowie = 17.5 oz
Tigershark = 17.1 oz
... only a 0.4 oz difference between the two, with the Super Bowie being heavier.

I'm aghast !! I'd never have guessed that "anything SOG" would come close to a Tigershark's weight, much less exceed it (however minimally). I've done a fair amount of chopping with my Tigershark and it's a fabulous chopper.

Now I'm gonna have to get serious about finding a Super Bowie just to find out what it's all about......

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. Chris@SOG, please don't hesitate to wade in here and tell us what's going on.......

There's one other difference, NPH. The Sog Tigershark is 14 inches over all with a big 9" blade, and the Super Bowie is only 10.75 inches over all.

...and the SOG Super Bowie is the heavier of the two.

It's strange. The SOG SCUBA/ Demo also has a leather handle, has almost the exact same blade length (it's just a quarter inch longer), and at the same time is still a full 4.6 ounces lighter! You could carry a SOG SCUBA/ Demo along with a SOG Field Pup and still be an ounce lighter than the Super Bowie by itself.

Don't worry about many SOG knives being made in Taiwan, Santino. Twenty years ago, you might have had something to get nervous about, but not today. If a company keeps a close eye on their manufacturers, they can get some fantastic quality out of the East.

Thirty years ago, a knife stamped "Made in Japan" was considered junk. Not anymore. Many of Al Mar's classic knives were made in Japan. Most of Lynn Thompson's stainless Cold Steel Tantos and folders are still made there, as is the SOG Pentagon.

Taiwan is becoming the Seki, Japan of the 21st century. Just off the top of my head, I know a lot of Columbia River's knives are made in Taiwan, Cold Steel's Black Bear Classic is made there, and so are some SOG knives. The question isn't just where's the knife being made, but which company is offering it, and what kind of quality control is the company insisting on?

As for steel quality, it isn't just the steel used, but the heat-treatment the steel gets. I'll leave that discussion for the smiths on Bladeforums. ;)

Hello,

I just bought myself a SOG Super Bowie knife the other day from Ebay, a brand new unopened one. It will be my 3rd SOG knife that I have bought lately (and according to my lovely wife, probably my last one for a while as well, LOL)! I bought the SOG S37-K first, and I was so swept away by its appearance, sharpness, ease of use and awesomness, that I decided to buy the SOG Tigershark Elite, which is the biggest and baddest SOG knife in the SEAL Teams knife family! Both knives are outstanding and is built with the highest quality! After I told a bladesmith friend of mine, whom had been making knives for over 25 years, he told me that I surely must know just what high quality knives and knife brands are, because the SOG brand knives are the top of the line right now, and especially with the actual-tested (By the actual US Navy SEALs) S37-K SEAL Teams knife and all of the other SEAL Teams family of knives. When I got both knives and used them, I knew without a doubt that I had bought the best. I was done for awhile, but then I saw the SOG Super Bowie knife via Ebay!! I thought to myself "What an awesome knife!" But I had already bought my fair share of knives, so I kept passing it up and passing it by. Still though, the Super Bowie knife just kept calling to me! It just kept standing out there above the rest, even highly above the Recon Scout knife made by Cold Steel! Well, I finally bowed down to its awesomness and bought the SOG Super Bowie knife. It is supposed to arrive to me tomorrow, and I am so excited and cannot wait for it to come! When my wife found out that I bought it, we had a very heated discussion LOL! Actually all was fine, but we did seriously discuss it! Like Is aid, my brand new SOG Super Bowie knife is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I am excited and cannot hardly wait! I imagine that I will be handling that knife, right along with my other 2 SOG knives, for several weeks before I put it down! I am even planning an extreme 2-month Badlands hiking and camping trip in the very near future,as I really want to get back to my original Deep Louisiana/ Alabama Southern wilderness roots, where I was happily raised and spent almost every one of my free minutes out in the woods, watching animals ( I call them critters) and catching highly poisonous spiders, snakes, Gila Monsters, and oh yeah, an occassional gator or 2! Anyway, now that I bought my awesome coming SOG Super Bowie knife, you can bet your bottom dollar I will be taking that knife with me, along with either my SOG S37 knife or my Tigershark Elite, or I might just break down and take all 3 of them! The main thing is that now I will have some of the best quality knives to travel with me anywhere and everywhere I go, whether it be the deep jungle-like Southern woods or the city-wide concrete jungle in the city! And either for combat or self-defense or survival, I will never be afraid to use whichever knife it is that I carry! I mean afterall, I do keep all my knives razor sharp and ready to cut away the testicles on any monkey human who tries to disturb and destroy my safety, my family's safety, and our well-being!! I learned how to professionally use a knife while in the US Navy SEALs special forces, and I learned how to use it and where to cut whatever or whoever in ways and places that will make a loser cry just by thinking about it! Anyway, I just cannot wait to get my Super Bowie by SOG! Another awesome knife to add to my collection of loser monkey-cutting tools!

Thanks,

John Rambo

Hello,

Well it came about a week ago! I am talking about my SOG Super Bowie knife! It is one awesome badass knife, let me tell you! It came surgery-performing razor sharp and it feels everso massive. And the reviews are right, it does weigh heavier than my Tigershark Elite!! Much heavier!! Anyway, I am going on a hiking/camping trip to the swampy Badlands in a few days. I will only have a couple changes of clothes and a survival kit and my SOG Super Bowie knife with a back-up knife just in case! I will be depending on my knife to help kill for my food, to build my shelter (I will have shelter made with limbs, brush, and heavy mud and dirt packs! It is going to be a true test because I plan to be in the Badlands for about 2 weeks, just me alone! I will have No gun or rifle of anykind. I will just have my knife and a nice fully loaded survival kit, along with a snakebite kit! I am so excited. I want to get my Southern Country surviving roots back. I am a bit tired and bored with all the modern living, with cell phones and cmputers! I think that after this expedition, I just might be a different person! I plan to get a lot out of this survival trip and also will be putting my Super Bowie knife to extreme surviving tests! I will post my experiences out in the Badlands and my experiences with my brand new Super Bowie knife! Thanks for reading!
