Hello,

I'm selling some of my vintage SOG knives and I've got a really rare knife that was made in the mid 80's. It's a SOG Team Leader folding knife that's very large with a mirror polished blued blade, micarta handles, stainless hand guard and pommel and it's untouched in the original cordura case since I bought it.

The guys at SOG told me that less than 500 were made in 1986 and that it was a very rare knife. I can send pics and I was wondering what this knife would sell for.

Thanks for your help,

Ray

Hard to say for sure what the knife would sell for. I saw one go for about $1000, but it had some nice custom engraving done on the bolsters. A safe guess would be in the $600 to $800 range, but keep in mind that is just a guess.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure how to post photos here, but I'll give it a try.

I have 5 of these knives from when I was GM of a large gunstore in Los Angeles. SOG was a fairly new company and they made beautiful stuff, so I ordered 10 of each model they made.

Sir, you are an astute collector.
can't help with the facts and figures but would simply like to say just how fortunate you are in have more than a single Team Leader.
the thing was that, it was a blued blade and a little large for the general knife users then.
but perhaps these were individually numbered as collectors pieces right before the Tomcat came into the picture?
the thing with some out of production knives is that they either remain in vogue well after production has ceased, or are generally well liked enough in design and styling to command a value exceeding it's original manufacturers suggested retail price.
and the best prices tend to be paid by collectors who intend making purchases with sentimental reasons pertaining to their lost youth...

the easiest thing to do for pics would just be to upload to any regular hosting site like imageshack, photobucket, etc, and post the links here (make sure they are set to be shared/public)

thanks

The team leader was an awsome folder, why I wonder that it never went into full production? Big folders are quite popular.

got any pics?

Here are some pics I gathered several years back. I've only handled one, and it was great in the hand.

Wow those look pristine considering how old they are. There's also one (or two) in the sticked picture thread

Wow part of me thinks they are ugly but another part thinks they are incredible.
I particularly like the blued blade ,obviously they are meant to reference the classic SOG bowie. Is it just me or do they remind anyone else of the Al Mar knives from around then as well?

Hey Chris, any chance of an updated comeback model?

Alot of people really seem to have an affinity for some of SOG's earlier pieces/direction. How 'bout a full blown heritage line?
