I already ordered it so I'm not looking for affirmation but has anyone here experienced any issues with either the knife or sheath?

Thanks,

The first fixed blade knife I ever bought as an adult was a SOG Tech bowie back in 1993. I thought it was cool then when I had no plans to use it. I don't like the steel and the geometry of the knife. The bevel is too steep and the edge is too thick for my liking. A lot of people like it though so it may be good for you.

I prefer knives with a thin edge so I hope they make it differently now. The steel in the current version is AUS8 at 57-58 hrc.

I read and watched some reviews and it looked ok. I like that the kydex sheath holds the knife without needing the strap. That's the main reason I bought it. The price seemed really good too, $68 with free shipping which seems almost too low but I got confirmation that it shipped.

Now I'm really curious about the edge thickness!

The knife I got is probably not the same as the one you're getting. Mine has a brass guard with rubber handle. The blade is about 7 1/2".

Ray, you had is called a SOG Tech II. I used to have a Tech I (5.5" blade) and rather liked it, but wished it had a 7" blade. Sold it to help pay for moving expences and wish I hadn't. They are more of a combat knife then a bush craft knife but that hasn't stopped a lot of people from doing that kind of stuff with them over the years.

The Current Tech Bowie is directly based off the SOG Bowie 2.0. Same blade, but Kraton handle and stainless steel guard and butt. The Tech Bowie would make a better dive/wet lands knife do to the Kraton handle vs the Bowie 2.0's leather handle if you prefer lower maintenace. Mystwalker did a Review on the Tech Bowie or Bowie 2.0 and looked favorably on it. Would love to have a Tech Bowie, I think it would make a great camp/bush knife.

I wished I got the earlier versions of this knife while they were make in Japan. The last one I handled was made in China, which turned me off.

I have one for my son to carry when we camp. The sheath has a weird immitation Tek Lok that stabs you in the love handle. I took it off and poked some holes for a Large Tek Lok and took off the fake rubber strap, That fixed it right up.
