I posted a similar thread on the main forum but wanted to go with it again to you SOG guys. I'm not myopic about knife brands, I own several and love them all for their intended purpose. Any experienced opinions out there about a comparison on the Buck 119 and the SOG Tech Bowie? Both relatively similar knives, different steels etc. but the Buck costs HALF of the SOG. Is the SOG twice the knife? If any of you have had experience with both I'd love to hear it.

I'll take the SOG, hands down.

Way back I bought a 119 ..... used it for many years. Then I bought a SOG Bowie S1 and haven't used the 119 since. In my obviously very personal opinion, SOG is much better knife.

Cheers,

Carl

Many people will prefer the Buck. But I honestly think the SOG blows it away. It is a matter of personal preference, but I truly believe the SOG is the better knife.

im not a knife pro, these are just my humble thoughts.....

Buck 119
Pro's: solid design, great carbon stainless steel and heat treat, strong tip, quiet leather sheath, good skinning belly
Con's: slick handle material, too shiney for tacticool usage. (if thats your pleasure)

SOG Tech Bowie
Pro's: solid AUS 8 stainless steel, great, all weather grip, great grind, can be had in tacticool black Ti coating, tight locking sheath
Con's: weak, thin tip prone to easy breakage

I think that the Buck 119 is better for outdoor/hunting/camping uses and the SOG Tech Bowie is better as a combat/tacticle type blade.

I got both, and the SOG tech rips a new  in the Buck.........

sog ha a beefier blade and tip.
