Hey there knuts.

I'm looking at setting up a bowhunting/camping kit, and I was wondering about a fixed blade.

I already own a RAT 5 but I really like the look of the SOG Tech Bowie.

How does the SOG hold up under camp like conditions?

what is the sheath like?

Does the RAT out perform it? I have used mine to trim the yard down and gave it a hammering to see what it'd take and I know it'd hold up.

I'd also like a backup in a BOB just in case so thats why I'm considering another knife.

I also don't have a lot of money to play with, as I have another kid on the way, maybe 100 - 150 USD max.

thanks for the input people.

If you already have a RAT-5, then you should get the SOG as well!

If you compare both knives, I think that the RAT-5 is the better one for outdoors work. The blade shape is better suited for all around utility (although this is a bit subjective and the tip is stronger. The double guard on the Tech Bowie would get in the way for some chores. The steel on the RAT-5 is better than the one on the Tech Bowie (although AUS8 is a decent steel, D2 is much better). The grind on the RAT-5 (flat) is also better for outdoors tasks than the Tech Bowie's grind (hollow).

Pretty much what ^ said. However I only own a seal2000 as a large blade, and it does it's job fine under normal circumstances.
