Yesterday my latest Ebay purchase came. I purchased a stainless SOG tech bowie with ambi kydex sheath. I only paid $89.95 plus shipping and I knew it was made in Tiawan. I was really pleased with the knife. I like how fast it goes on your belt and the fact I now have a big knife I can wear on my left side. Handle is good sized and fits a large hand well. A very nice knife for the money. Anyone know if SOG makes a folder with ARC lock and SAT? I think that would make a nice folder for a lefty like myself, since the lock works from both sides. What type of sharpener do you suggest for me that would help me keep the angle on the blade consistant? Thanks! Bill:D

Bill,

WOW !! CONGRATS !! A fabulous knife you got there !!

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. I"ll let others provide the good info on sharpening, I'm quite sharpening-challenged.

Well, if you want to keep the edge consistent I suggest something as simple as the Meyerco Sharpen-It (used as instructed). In the meantime, learn to use a stone. Buy a used fixed blade with the same type of steel. I use the less inexpensive Norton India Course/Fine (IB8) combination bench stone rather than an expensive true Arkansas stone. There are plenty of resources available on how to use a stone. Also, the stone that came with the knife is adequate out in the field.

When sharpening with a stone, how do you know you are sharpening at the same angle on both sides of the blade? Is there a device for this or does it just take practice and a good eye?

a spyderco sharpmaker makes that aspect of sharpening easy... which is why i use it. i would say that you won't be disappointed if you get one.

Practice. There are a lot of sharpeners out there that make it easy and most have a drawbacks like sharpening horizontally along the blade but you should be familiar with sharpening with a stone. You have to get good at it to appreciate the art of sharpening a blade to a razor sharp edge with a bench stone.
