Another cool knife I picked up at Blade was this Tech Bowie. It is a replacement for my old S1 Bowie that mysteriously disappeared a while back. While I still like the traditional looks of the leather handled Bowie I learned that I really liked SOG's kraton handles on an older SEAL 2000, and I learned that I really liked this style of Kraton handle with the Creed. I really liked the Creed in general as it is one heck of a chopper but my liking this blade shape in particular goes back to 1976 when I was hanging out with a couple of guys who had original 5th Group knives.
The sheath of this one is Kydex rather than leather like my old one, but I really like how it can be changed from right hand to left really easily by just taking out a couple of screws and moving the belt loop to the other side. I also like how the belt loop makes it so that the sheath can be attached to a pistol belt without removing the other gear on the belt first.
With an over all length of 11 inches and a blade length of 6.4 inches this one is pretty much the same size as my old S1. However the blade on my old one was right at 5/16 of an inch thick and made of SK5, being 0.24 inches thick, or just under 1/4 of an inch and made of AUS8 this one is a bit lighter but still feels good in the hand, over all it still has a very familiar feel to it. I have always liked the location of SOGs lanyard holes. They work out well for quickly reversing grip using the lanyard.
