Sog Throwing Knives vs Seal Pup

I recently purchased a seal pup and have to say I am very happy with it so far.

Something of interest to me though was that I realized that the Seal Pup has the exact profile of my Sog throwing knives. The only difference (other than the obvious serrations) is that the spine near the tip is tapered on the pup and comes to a square edge on the throwers.

When I originally got the throwers, I was interested in them as a back up field knife, but was told by SOG that there were no sheaths available. (other than the triple slot sheath they come with).

The throwers fit properly in my Kydex sheath. The square edge on the thrower does catch on the leather pup sheath, but I suspect with a little wearing in, it will slide right in.

So how does the metal and the coating on the throwers stand up vs the seal pups? Does the fact that the thrower does not taper until that square edge make it stronger?

The throwers have a hardcased coat while the seal pup is powder-coated. both are fairly durable finishes.
Mind you, the seal pup itself makes a better backup field knife than the throwers would; I'm thinking of getting one myself for this purpose. The throwers are made from a relatively inferior steel; to a point that blade geometry plays a petty role in strength comparison. The seal pup is probably the stronger knife by a significant margin. The throwers are meant to take abuse - they were meant for throwing - but I wonder how well they take an edge. They seem like toys to me.
Still, I guess, if you've got 'em, better to use 'em than to leave 'em at home.
