If you guys haven't been to the SOG forum for a while, Ron recently posted the new titanium handled SOG Flash.

I've always underrated SOG but this one has made my jaw drop!

Titanium handles, SAT assisted opening (like Kershaw), bolt action lock, and a safety like a gun, and...

It's like that girl in high-school you always thought was kinda plain looking coming back from summer vacation looking like a knock out!

SOG flashes are gonna comrpise most of the X-mas gifts to my best freinds this year I think.

That being said, they are alluminium handles, not titanium. But the blades are coated with titanium nitride coating. DON"T let this effect your judgemnt of the knife in a negative way, I have a few aircraft-allumninium handles and they are superb. I have also handled the flash series knives and the SAT action on them makes me laugh the "evil laugh". They are quite anxious to be released from thier handles and they ar not shy about telling you so. The price point on these knives is ridiculously low and I am chomping at the bit to get me some.

One of the reasons I like SOG is because they do listen to what thier customers say. They are a production knife company that cannot be expected to make custom modifications or play to a niche thier consumer base, but they dont ignore it when we say something. The X-42 feild knife is a good example. People called for a non-tanto bg-42 fixed blade after the Recondo, and Spencer Frazer gave us the X-42 feild knife. Its plain edge recurved BG-42 blade, at its price range is impressive and pretty much a shout-out to the few people who had issue with the Recondo.

The Flash knife is definatley worth the money and the new aluminium handled TiNi ones are the creaam of that crop. Gonna definately have me a plain edged one soon.

Thanks for the correction. I went to the SOG website but their description was a bit ambiguous for me. I guess I should have realized that the handles looked "too sculpted" for titanium alloy. Thanks for the clarification.

No, it doesn't change my evaluation at all. In fact I was looking for an aluminum handled knife for the future. I had my sights set on the Microtech SOCOM (still do) but this new version of the Flash has got my interest now.

BTW, I'm not totally unfamiliar with SOG. I just fell off their bandwagon. My very first folder was the entry level SOG Magnadot (which I still own). And my multi-tool is the older, SOG Power Plier 1. It's obvious they've come a long way since then.
