Has the SOG Tomahawk been designed for throwing too? Does it have an easily replaceable handle? It looks very fine.
Thanks, Bob

Seems like a great question... I wandered over to this forum after seeing the pic of the 'hawk in the SMKW catalog. It looks like handle replacement would be pretty specialized on this piece if the handle is designed to split around a metal tang from the hawk head.

Anybody actually have one of these?

Because it would be too hard/brittle? I think throwing knives are often made in 48-50 RC to withstand damage when throwing.

I would hope that they would not make it brittle. 48-50Rc would keep it from chipping and breaking but I would imagine that it would deform like crazy. Which isn't bad in and of itself but it will mean a lot of resharpening, and forget about 420 holding a even somewhat decent edge at that hardness. I have a Jackie Collins machete in 420 and frankly it sucks at chopping and not looking like the edge was used to dig rocks. Alot of good hawks made from good tool steel are in the 53-54Rc range. Other then cost I have no idea why in the world SOG went with this steel.

Thank you guys for your replies. SOG has not released information nor product yet. I am eager to learn more. Bob
